About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live in a Great City. If the city I live in is not Great, then to work to make it so.

ABOUT ME

I'm easy to get along with, and am always excited to learn about the culture and people anywhere I travel. I make an effort to get off the beaten path and try to learn as much as I can about a place - the real place, rather than only the touristy parts. this has led to some interesting experiences, detailed in the "amazing things I've seen". I listen and try to understand before speaking out, and I am engaging and knowledgeable without being overbearing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to the couchsurfing community, but not new to traveling or staying on couches. I'm excited to get more involved, both hosting and being a surfer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

informal experiences only (outside the website). I've hosted (here in Edmonton) and stayed on couches in Barcelona and Prince George (BC). All have been great experiences.

Interests

I'm an architect and designer. I also build things of all scales. Every kind of design interests me, and seeing and learning about different ways to think about design and living is always exciting. I love video games and technology, although I don't have time for the games so much anymore. I also like to bike (pedal) and play a lot of sports - volleyball, squash, tennis and ultimate Frisbee to name a few. Traveling is also important, and I'm working at improving my Spanish.

Music, Movies, and Books

Space Odyssey 2001, Foundation series (Isaac Asimov)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling to Istanbul, I explored an part of the city called Sultanbeyli in support of research I was doing for my Master's thesis. This was far away from where any tourists go, and I struck up a conversation with a group of people in the bus on the way. They were incredibly friendly and we traded questions for the whole time I was on the bus. This made the whole experience way more fun, and it meant a lot that they were genuinely interested in where I was from, and who my family was etc.

The Pantheon was my favorite building and the one place that I've been truly awestruck. The photos don't do it justice, not even close.
