ABOUT ME
I tell my creative writing students that the particular is always preferable to the general, in both fiction and poetry. The same is true, I suppose, for CouchSurfing profiles, though the most important particular is that I'm moving to Oakland this summer to start a teaching and writing job at Stanford. As for the rest, I think I'm your average hippie, academic Marxist.
More particularly, I enjoy both locally-grown produce and nation-wide protest movements. I ride bikes, currently a 1967 Schwinn. I drink dry wine and love dry wit. I listen to HOT 97 and NPR. I get up early. I like to hike and wander. I'm writing a screenplay for HBO called "BRO." I read Shakespeare. I write poems. I run marathons and do yoga. [I am the worst, least-flexible student in the class. {Probably of all time.}] I enjoy the Indianapolis 500 and the Metropolitan Museum. I am meticulously clean, my days often rigorously scheduled; this makes me, I suspect, a bit uptight, but also efficient in the pursuit of my many eclectic interests.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm brand new to this site, but really excited about it. I'm just looking for a place to stay for a couple of nights while I find an apartment in Oakland, and, if interested, for someone to show me the best that Oakland has to offer in terms of drink, food, and friends. And maybe running trails.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I am remarkably poorly-traveled, to the point that I've never been west of Chicago in my life. I imagine moving to California will be one of the "amazing things" I see and do. I am, consequently, terrified.
