CURRENT MISSION

We're an Australian family of 4, spending a year based in Germany and visiting Europe with our children, to immerse ourselves in a different culture and give them a taste of this corner of the world.

ABOUT ME

We are a passionate and creative couple, we love learning new skills and ideas, and meeting interesting people. We are particularly interested in living sustainably and in a way that builds communities. We have previously spent over a year hitchhiking and couchsurfing around Europe and the Americas, and now are back with our kids to do some more exploration.

When it comes to food, Amanda and our son are vegetarian, but is otherwise easy to please food-wise! :)

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When we travel we like to meet cool people and get to know them, rather than just being tourists passing through.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We surfed with dozens of hosts in Europe and the Americas in 2013-2014, and it has always been a great experience. We feel like we have a much stronger connection with the places where we found a couch - we want to go back to the cities where we couldn't one day so we can get beyond the tourist experience. At home, we have hosted more than 10 exchange students as well as friends we met couchsurfing, and met some awesome couch surfers in Australia.

Pretty much anything creative - drawing, painting, animation, music, design, cooking, gardening, photography; nature (getting out into the country), Rogaining (like orienteering), mountain biking, architecture (old and new) and sustainable design.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Music: Plenty of Jazz, or anything chilled out. Occasional classical and folk. Almost anything, really.
Books: I wish I had more time to read books. Mostly non-fiction when I can. I love learning new stuff, but these days mostly from the interwebz.
Movies: considering I studied screen studies, you'd think I'd have a long list here, right? Well, I enjoyed Amelie, Run Lola Run, the Blues Brothers, Inception, some art-housey type stuff, big Christopher Nolan films. Films with subtitles.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Hiked for 24 hours straight in a Rogaine (that's like orienteering) in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia.
Saw lightning hit a power pole about 20 metres away while sitting in a car watching a thunderstorm. Also took a photo of a lightning bolt 100 metres away.
Walking on a crumbling, unrestored section of the Great Wall of China.
Amsterdam on the last Queen's Day.
Midsommar near Rätvik in Sweden.
Hitch-hiked for over 6000km from Hannover to the North Cape then back down to Oslo and Stockholm.
