About Me

Hi, I'm Chris! I've lived in Singapore for the most part of my life, but I was an American too (renounced), so I do go back to the States every once in a while to visit my relatives!

I was an exchange student in Europe, and I really liked to see how people from different cultures think. The months I spent meeting people all over the world was one of the best experiences I ever had! My biggest regret is only discovering couchsurfing in the last month on my time there (2012)!

I am currently working hard and trying to save up so that I can get my own place and start hosting surfers... hopefully soon!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I surfed in Malta with the best and craziest hosts, it was an amazing experience! I'm hoping to be able to surf more when I travel solo to discover the local culture better!

I have not done hosting yet because I do not have my own place :( but I plan to host in the future when I get my own place!

I have no problems affording my own accommodation, but I think couchsurfing for someone like me is really an opportunity to meet locals! I prefer that to the typical sterile kind of hotel-hopping-tour-bus travelling.

Interests

FOOOOOD!!! I will and I want to eat everything and anything! Well, maybe except insects and cucumbers!

I like nature, even if its just a simple sunny day in the park. But I don't like mosquitos very much, we have a bad history. I really love kayaking and the open sea, so I want to learn sailing, windsurfing, surfing, kiteboarding!

I do love cities too. I love to see how different cities work, especially how different people live. I love the whole "organized chaos" that only happens in the rush of the city!

I like languages a lot. I'm fluent in English and I hope to be able to teach English as a foreign language in future (TEFL), but I need more experience first. I studied Mandarin for 12 years, but I am not fluent, just conversational. I've studied Dutch and French in school to immerse myself in European culture, but it is hard to improve without language exposure . I am currently studying Korean and in the future I hope to start Japanese as well!

Oh, and dogs! I love dogs! :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a crazy movie buff, there's always a movie that I still want to catch! I've seen all kinds of movies, oldies, classics, hollywood ones! I really like mindf*ck movies though, those make you go insane for a week!

Music, there's too many to list! But I'd say mostly mainstream with rock influences.

I like reading a lot on nerdy things like investing, finance and current affairs.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I ever stood in the middle of a frozen lake in northern Sweden just staring at the Auroras until I became a frozen block. But that sure was beautiful.

I have tons more awesome stories though!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share stories, as well as tips about every country and city that I have been to so far! I have introduced many of my friends to enjoy the experience of couchsurfing, and they all have loved it so far!

My current language infatuation is Korean, so of course meeting any Koreans or Korean learners would be wonderful to me!

I am preparing to be an official freelance (part-time, 2nd job!) tour guide in Singapore, but I have yet to register for the exam and licence! I can share my knowledge about living in a the most famous modern day multi-cultural, multi-racial, multi-religious society!

I know I don't look like it, but I have a lot of experience in personal finance and I can definitely share my knowledge with anyone that wants to know more about saving, investing or just general money talk.

What I Can Share with Hosts

The company of a happy-go-lucky fella!

No one looks back on their life and remember the nights they had plenty of sleep!
