Algo increíble que he hecho

Once I was in Japan, up around Mt. Fuji hanging out with an adventurous group of ex-pats and nationals. A huge cloud bank rolled in around the cabin we were staying at. It was so think you couldn't see 5 feet in front of you. We all decided to walk down to the lake in the middle of the fog/cloud, had to hold hands in a long chain just to make it down the path. When we arrive at the lake, there was no clouds above. Amazing. Thick walls around us, but clear dark black-blue sky with 1000s & 1000s of stars winking back. If felt like the universe had created this special moment, blocking out everything except what needed to be noticed. I felt deeply significant and small at the same time.

Then we lit off some fireworks.. because fireworks are legal all year in Japan and you can buy them at 7-Eleven. By now the clouds have run away.. Maybe they don't like fireworks. We walk back to the cabin laughing the whole way.... there might have been some drinking involved at the beach..

As we stumble up to the cabin one of the most fantastic events of my entire life unfolded. The whole group turned the last corner and before us was hundreds of dancing lights. Fireflies as big as your finger drifted in the air like mini-blimps. They lumbered along, blinking and bobbing. Very slow moving... you could reach out and gently pull one out of the air. There it would sit in your hand w/o a care in the world, blinking its butt with bug brilliance. We all went silent in awe.

10 minutes later.. the fireflies blinked their way off into the forest.
