Overview
About Me
Vegan. Straight Edge. Buddhist. Balding.
I'm a Canadian travel blogger who wanders the world in search of adventure and vegan snacks. I grew up in small town Canada, and spent 11 years working on an organic farm. I also helped run a workers' cooperative there, too.
These days I mostly travel and write, jog, and play some chess. I love to read and enjoy nature and I love impromptu adventure. I'm a big movie watcher, and all around nerd too.
I work for a travel blog (www.nomadicmatt.com) so I do my fair share of travelling. It's something I Iove so I'm always happy to talk travel and share stories!
I've also written a book! (http://amzn.to/2syT58u)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Yes, CS is a great way to save money when you are travelling. But it's more than that. It's having someone help you by providing a warm, inviting space. That is truly one of the best parts of travelling; getting to see the world from someone else's perspective is always something I cherish. By living with a local you will *always* get a more immersive experience than if you simply stayed at a hostel. CS is a way to connect, and the world always needs more connection.
As a host, this is my way of giving back. It's how I meet new friends and travellers, and create a network of like-minded people all around the world. When I can't travel, CS is my way of escaping through those people I host — learning about their country and their trips is just one fun way indulge my perma wanderlust
Interests
I love to discuss/debate human nature, our place in the world, our impact on it, primitivism and philosophy, sustainable living, politics, social change, religion...pretty much anything!
I also love Star Wars. Seriously. And Dungeons and Dragons.
Mainly, though, I love to talk travel.
Music, Movies, and Books
star wars, lord of the rings, star trek, 1984, fathers and sons, shogun, the dogs of nam, synecdoche NY, the assassination of jesse james by the coward robert ford, wolf parade, the ramones, listener, handsome furs, anti flag. etc.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Climbed Kilimanjaro, climbed Mount Fuji, walked the Camino twice. The usual!
Teach, Learn, Share
Having lived at a monastery, I can show you some meditation tips and tricks if you have trouble with sleep or anxiety or just need to relax.
I farmed for 11 years, so I can help with garden work and such.
I work for a travel blog, so I know a tonnnn about travel.
I also write, so can help edit stuff if you need some fresh eyes.
