Overview
About Me
I am the retired wife of a financial planner and mother of two adult children—one of whom is a computer programmer and the other of whom is an IT specialist and ski instructor. We live in Las Vegas with our two rescued puppies and are active in lots of service organizations.
After teaching middle school for awhile, I returned to school for my doctorate in educational technology. I finished in 2003 and began work as a visiting professor. I later moved to consulting and eventually chose to stay home while my children (both of whom have autism) completed school.
While at home, I fell in love with triathlon and became a recreational athlete. Now, I have completed ten Ironman-distance (140.6 mile) races. Along the way, I spent a lot of time cross-training so now have a resume including several other achievements to my name. Some of these include summiting Kilimanjaro, solo hiking the John Muir Trail and 1000 km on el Camino de Santiago, and many distance treks in the Himalaya (e.g., Annapurna Circuit and Basecamp, Everest Basecamp), Andes (e.g., Patagonia "0," Salkantay, Lares, Ausangate), and USA (e.g., Rim-to-Rim of the Grand Canyon, Trans-Catalina Trail). To say the very least, I am a very goal driven person.
I think I am an easy house guest—quiet and respectful—and would be grateful if you were to allow me to stay in your home while I explore this amazing world. Mostly, I just like to be quiet and stay by myself.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I travel a lot for races and to complete other big goals and would like to find a cheaper way to travel. Plus, I like to be around friendly locals who know the area.

Teach, Learn, Share
I love to travel for the purpose of physical activity like hiking, riding my bike, or competing in triathlons. Mostly, though, I love to hear the stories of others while learning about places and cultures other than my own.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I would be happy to share my experiences and advice regarding triathlon and distance hiking.
