Overview
About Me
I travel full-time, having decided to retire early from the programming job that was making me withdrawn and cynical. Now I spend my time driving around the USA and camping in national parks or meeting interesting new people in the city. Eventually I'll take my travel overseas, but it's a big country with plenty to see here for now.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I like going to couchsurfing events mostly. While I'm pretty self-sufficient with camping, it's nice to find hosts who enjoy new people and experiences the same as me.
Interests
I'm a member of Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval enthusiast club.
I like to go dancing to live music performances, though honestly I'm a pretty bad dancer 😜
I'm a big fan of craft beer, though I'm hardly a beer snob.
I'm semi-retired from the tech industry, but I could still talk your ear off about techie subjects from programming to games to web design.

Music, Movies, and Books
My musical tastes are hard to pin down, and include Orbital, Tom Waits, The Doors, Iron Maiden, Charles Mingus, and Frank Zappa.
Authors: Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Umberto Eco, and Hunter S. Thompson.
I'm not too picky about movies, though I wait for most to come out on Netflix unless it's really spectacular. Anything by the Cohen Brothers is always a winner.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Learned a couple rhythms on a doumbek and drummed nearly all night at Grand Outlandish (an SCA event) while scantily-clad belly dancers twirled, shimmied, and shook to the rhythms we were making. Took the same doumbek to an event in Missouri and had a line dancing behind me as I walked and drummed. And I'm not even that good at it! :)
Teach, Learn, Share
Yep, that sounds like a good motto :)
In the past, I used my technology skills to connect with people and help build community. I'm hoping to do that again sometime soon.
I've spent too many years pushing my opinions on others: I'd rather listen and learn more now so that I might have something interesting to teach later.
What I Can Share with Hosts
An eagerness to learn, good conversation, respect for differences, and just plain enjoyment of life. I do have a silly sense of humor once I get warmed up.
