About Me

I am 26 years old and am a part-time musician, while I look for work managing the relationship between humans and the environment in a way that is mutually beneficial! I have a Master's in Anthropology, Environment and Development, and for my thesis I spent 2 months living with an Indigenous community on the edge of the Ecuadorian Amazon. I am fascinated by the relationship between Indigenous cultures and their places, where land, culture and self, are inextricably linked. I think we in the industrial world need to reignite this connection to the land, plants and creatures outside our window, what we pass on the way to work.
I love listening to and playing music – if you're up for any sort of a jam, count me in. I also love travel, I find it particularly exciting and freeing, and mostly endeavour to do it as much as possible. I really enjoy meeting new people, and this makes up a huge part of why I enjoy travelling so much - there really is nothing like it for a concentrated cross-section of free-spirited souls from around the globe.
I'm also into meditation, yoga, and all that sweet sweet jazz. Let's hang out!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think it's a really cool idea, a very human exchange that crosses borders and cultures while bypassing the formality of charging money for a service.
Although I'm new to it, it seems a great way of meeting new people and staying in interesting places at a much lower cost than the usual methods.

Music, Movies, and Books

My adolescence was dominated by guitar music, particularly heavier stuff like pop-punk and some metal. Since going to university I have become heavily involved in electronic music, particularly deep house and techno, although I would now say that I listen to a pretty diverse range of music. Some of my all time favourites are Radiohead, Ben Howard, Kendrick Lamar and Icelandic electronic geniuses Kiasmos, to name but a few.
I love films but don't watch them as often as I would like. "Favourite movies" is an extremely tough call but Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke, Layer Cake, A Fish Called Wanda, The Big Short, Wedding Crashers, are all up there.
Books is again a tough one, I've read quite a lot, particularly as a child. Books that have really stuck with me (and by that I mean I would highly recommend you read them as soon as possible) include John Steinbeck's 'East of Eden,' Arundhati Roy's 'The God of Small Things,' Tom McCarthy's 'The Road'... Ooh, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy AND (oh my Lord) Philip Pullman's trilogy, 'His Dark Materials'. Absolutely phenomenal.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My mother also loves travelling, and our family recently had the insane privilege of going on a cruise from the southern tip of Argentina to the Antarctic peninsula, via South Georgia. It was a truly incredible experience; standing on the edge of a penguin colony of 250,000 birds, walking along a beach surrounded by thousands of newborn fur seal cubs (the cutest beings in existence!!), cruising past an iceberg 5 miles long... Words cannot do the trip justice. It was amazing.
