About Me

So, I'm an Irish guy, currently living in Melbourne. I have a degree n Biology (Zoology/Botany), but decided that kitchens are more fun than labs in my early twenties. I have been working as a chef for several years now, and moved to Basel about 6 months ago.

I am currently planning a career change, I want to brew beer, I have brewed beer at home with friends for along time, and really love the diversity of beer styles. From the classic brews of Belgium, to the big, brash American newcomers, I love them all!

I love to travel, see new places, and, most importantly, meet new people. I particularly like to live in new places rather than just pass through, as this allows me to get much more of a feel for them. So far I've lived in Dublin (my home), San Francisco, North Cyprus, Switzerland, Melbourne and will be moving to Edinburgh next September to start my Masters degree, in brewing and distilling.

I think a person should be constantly learning and evolving. I find it hard to stay in one place for too long. I really love beer!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Friends of mine have surfed and hosted before and I have heard nothing but positive things. I love the idea of staying with a local, and would also love to host other travellers and be able to show them what the city means to me.

Interests

I love to go to live music, whether it's an acoustic set or a techno night.

Learning new languages, I am fluent in English, have conversational Irish (Gaelic) and French, I learned some German basics while living in Switzerland, and am currently learning Spanish.

For me, learning a language simply allows you to interact with more people, and this can only ever be positive.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach a lot about Biology, particularly Evolution and Zoology. I can teach about brewing and tasting beer (actually tasting, not just drinking!). I can teach to cook as well.

Most of al I would like to learn from the hosts their side of the ciity, where they like to go, the places they like to eat, drink, chill, whatever!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd love to share a beer with them!
