ABOUT ME

Relaxed, out going individual who enjoys the craic!

Born and raised in Armagh in Ireland, with a great appreciation and love of the place, people and culture of home.

Big part of who I am is gaelic games, playing both hurling and gaelic football. This is a special part of Irish culture and affords not just competitive and enjoyable sport, but a culture and part of Irishness that is unique. Gaelic games is unlike other sports that have, in my opinion, been tarnished by money and consumerism, through it's amateur ethos it promotes community and pride in your local area, with everyone playing a part, from the old man who cuts the grass, to the women would make the sandwiches, to the star player and senior team who win an All-Ireland.

I really enjoy a good conversation, anything from politics to religion or food.

Love exploring, whether it be urban or outdoors. Bit of urban exploring can be anything from walking a city and exploring buildings or heading to a gig, event or restaurant. Outdoor exploring, well that's just anything that involves being outside. Particularly love to surf.

Beauty in the small things is something I believe in, with Patrick Kavanagh saying it best,

“To know fully even one field or one land is a lifetime's experience. In the world of poetic experience it is depth that counts, not width. A gap in a hedge, a smooth rock surfacing a narrow lane, a view of a woody meadow, the stream at the junction of four small fields - these are as much as a man can fully experience.”

PHILOSOPHY

A difficult thing to concisely word, but an extract from Jim Stynes autobiography goes a little way.

For those who don't know Jim was an Irishman who went to play Aussie Rules in Australia and became an popular Australian. An inspirational figure, who's battle with cancer taught him many things, the quote below for me was one interesting lesson.

"Life is a constant duel between ego and spirit. When it's allowed to run free, ego is that part of you that wants you to be the best at what you do, be the richest, the most popular, have the best job, the most beautiful house and the most gorgeous woman on your arm. Ego aspires to greatness, without caring whether it's good for your soul-or, importantly, whether it's bad for your soul. Ego wants adulation, attention and recognition.
Your spirit, on the other hand, is your essence, your nature. When nutured it helps you discover the greatness within; it helps you to become all you can be, not all that everyone else wants or expects you to be."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Couchsurfed in Hawai'i and met some amazing people. Very fortunate that some great and interesting people hosted me allowing me to explore, share and enjoy the beauty of Oahu.

Also through my flat mate in Belfast have hosted a ridiculous amount of people. Overall was a great experience, lucky to host amazing and interesting people and hopefully gave them all a little insight into Irish culture and life, and hope they all enjoyed the stay.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is a big thing for me. I enjoy a wide range of genres, everything from Northern Soul to House. I think its too much of a challenge to list musical interests as it might take too long and music for me is all about relating to moods and places. Therefore one week i might be in soul mood and next i'll be enjoying house sets it all depends. One thing is for sure though is I love to discover new music and it's one of the first things i ask a person.

Not so much a movies person. Although i enjoy a good movie, i've never really had the time to watch a lot of them and explore the medium.

Books and reading are a thing i'd like to do more. i read a bit, however, and think you can never read enough, basically furnishes the ability to have a good conservation I believe, which is always a good thing.
