About Me

CURRENT MISSION

take advantage of every oppertunity life presents me with :)

ABOUT ME

I'm an adventurous person with many interests. Sometimes I feel indecisive, but I prefer to think of myself as someone with passions for many things. I find a lot of joy in new experiences, whether it be meeting new people, hearing new music, trying new food, anything really. I can be shy at times, but mostly I am an open and fun-loving person.

PHILOSOPHY

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends. -Maya Angelou

I have been ten days in this temple
and my heart is restless.
The scarlet thread of lust at my feet
has reached up long.
If someday you come looking for me,
I will be in a shop that sells fine seafood,
a good drinking place,
or a brothel.
-Ikkyu

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've met some amazing people (many of whom have become good friends!) by surfing, hosting, or just meeting for a drink.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have made some life-long friends thanks to couch-surfing. It really makes the world feel like a more kind, cozier place.

Interests

I get new interests on a regular basis, but of course I am always interested in traveling and languages. I love to see live music, to dance (I'm not so good, but I've taken beginner lessons in oriental dance, modern, flamenco, and salsa), I LOVE to eat, and everything that goes along with it: cooking, trying new/strange food, wine, beer, and most of the best conversations I've had are at the dinner table.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really love film, though I don't consider myself a film-buff yet, it's more of a long-term goal to reach that status, here are a few favorites: a Via Láctea, Celda 211, Grizzly Man, la Haine, Ella (Lombardi), Irreversible, Manhattan

books: Unbearable Lightness of Being (Kundera), Timequake (Vonnegut), Picture of Dorian Gray (Wilde), Caramelo (Cisneros), Partir (Ben Jelloun)

music: I like a bit of everything depending on my mood, but here's what I always turn to: Clube da Esquina (Milton Nascimento & Lo Borges), Ana Moura, Anita Tijoux, Leonard Cohen, the National, Manu Chao, Joan Baez, Ben Harper, Tracy Chapman

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

...

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn anything and everything: languages, recipes, songs, dances, new outlooks on life

I can share: my favorite chocolate-chip cookie recipe, my opinions, advice on where to eat/what to do in Chicago, bits of languages I speak, and whatever I happen to be passionate about at the moment
