About Me
October 2024 update: currently travelling in Southeast Asia.
Hi, I’m Cindy! I grew up in a small town in Washington State, about an hour north of Seattle. Growing up in the pacific northwest, I naturally developed a passion for nature. Currently, I'm interested in the various intersections between environment and culture - from urban planning to food webs to sustainable agriculture. I also love learning new hobbies - right now, I'm learning to ride a motorcycle, carving buttons from spare avocado pits, and listening to new music.
When traveling, I enjoy exploring local neighborhoods by foot or public transportation, finding good vegetarian food, and shazaming songs I stumble across along the way. For me, the most memorable parts of travel are the non-touristy things - fun moments shared with new friends. That means going to local shows, spontaneous side trips, and finding cool little-known hangout spots while getting to know people.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm starting a backpacking trip through Southeast Asia, and am hoping to build meaningful relationships with various people around the world. I'm excited to meet new people, exchange cultures, and make fun memories with people I meet along the way!

Music, Movies, and Books
I love finding new music and listen to a range of genres. Usually, I don't focus on the artists themselves, and instead seek out groovy upbeat music that makes me want to dance, but my favorite artists are currently Natalia Lafourcade, Joe Hisaishi, and Men I Trust.
I enjoy animated movies most, especially Studio Ghibli movies and children's animated movies. Favorites: Kiki's Delivery Service, Big Hero 6, A Silent Voice.
And I haven't been reading much (got burnt out after college) but am trying to get back into it. Books I have read recently or am currently reading: The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane, Braiding Sweetgrass.
