About Me

Hi, I'm Cindy from Colombia. There I was English and Spanish teacher. I wanted to learn German and travel around Europe then I decided to be au pair in Germany. This decision was quite difficult because that meant to leave my family for a long period and step outside my comfort zone, but I really, really wanted so I did. I've lived for more than half year in Germany and I don't regret to take that decision. Today I'm aiming to improve my German because I want to apply to the Uni here and do my Master studies.

I'm aware that as teacher you instill in your students not only your knowledge, but also the way you see the world, that's why I want to travel a lot and learn about cultures, history, geography and become a better person and teacher.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

there is no better guide than a local, it is not to get a person to tell you what happened here or there, one can make that using internet, but a person who tells you about the culture, unknown places, food, and can share with you lots of experiences.

Another thing I like a lot this social network is that it makes real “help others”. It is unimaginable how helpful is offering a place to sleep to someone who needs it.

Interests

I love teaching no only English and Spanish (in the future hopefully German too) but also about cultures and off course learn about them. I really enjoy reading (especially scyfy, dystopian and short stories), watching movies, cooking, dancing (although I don't do it pretty well) and drawing. I love eating and I want to taste every kind of food all over the world. I hope to learn more languages and traditions.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like music in general, taking into account that there is a kind of music for each situation, then I like listening to classical music to concentrate myself or salsa or merengue when I go to a party or when I want to dance. My favorite artists are Radiohead, Daft Punk, Depeche Mode and Soda Stereo, but i’m not the kind of fan who knows every single song and the history of the bands, I just listen to them more than other bands.

I watch a lot of movies, I like specially Studio Ghibli´s movies and syfy. Lately I have seen classics and I have to say that Fritz Lang and Akira Kurosawa are amazing! The movie I’ve seen the last year and I like the most was Incendies, my favorite child movie is Mulan and well, I’ve not decided yet which is my favorite movie, there are a lot of fantastic movies.

About books, there are a lot of books which I think are terrific and I kept special memories, but the ones I’ve loved the most are “One Hundred years of Solitude”, “The little Prince”, all short stories by Oscar Wilde, specially “The Happy Prince” and “The selfish Giant”, “The death of Ivan Illyich”, “Macbeth”, “1984” and “Beauty and Sadness”, I know they are lot of books, but with too many good books how can you decide for just one?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've got a tattoo, it seems like normal, but in the conservative society I was born, that´’s really subversive.

I’ve done a little bit of extreme sports like canopy, rafting, rappel and climbing but not a lot.

I did my first big abroad trip when I was 23 to Ecuador and Perú.

Teach, Learn, Share

I’m Spanish and English teacher (hopefully in future German too).I would be glad of helping people to learn or practise their language skills. I love the food from my country (and food in general), I would be happy of sharing recipes or teach how to cook Colombian food. Finally, that’d be lovely to share all life experiences I’ve had, travel tips and stories. I'm English and Spanish teacher (and hopefully
