About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My current mission in life is to pursue my passions.

ABOUT ME

I'm a big fan of sex ed (at any age), and educating girls about menstruation in developing countries.

I love to laugh. I even do it in my sleep.

PHILOSOPHY

Be excellent to everyone.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'd love to be a host, and I plan to do a lot of couch surfing myself

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couchsurfed in Tanzania, and it was great!

Interests

I LOVE cooking. Eating is also fun. Music [listening to it, going to live shows, playing instruments] makes my world go round. I like rock climbing, hiking, biking, exploring in general...

I graduated university with a bachelors in Medical Anthropology and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. I enjoy examining the intersection of sex, gender, and power as it pertains to present world issues, but also every day situations. I like questioning my own assumptions and learning about new perspectives. This is what has brought me to Uganda!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a pretty big fan of jangly guitars and out of tune singing voices. My favorite band is The National, my favorite singer is Andrew Bird, my favorite composer is Rimsky-Korsakov.

My read primarily fiction, with a bit of non-fiction sprinkled in for good measure. I like books that tell a good story, but they must also have language that speaks to me. My favorite books are White Teeth and Haroun and the Sea of Stories. The God of Small Things must also get a special mention.

Movies. I have much more discerning tastes when it comes to books. I can watch 10 Things I Hate About You a jillion times and it wouldn't get old, but sitting through Transformers was incredibly difficult. My favorite movies (I can't pick just one) include: Imitation of Life, Pulp Fiction, Leon the Professional, You, Me and Everyone We Know and Amelie.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Working in shelters in the US as well as my community here in Uganda, I've witnessed the incredible resilience of some human beings. It never ceases to amaze me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can't say I'm good at very many things, but I love cooking, and I'd love to exchange recipes.

Uganda has made me pretty crafty too. I've been known to draw a mean stick figure.
