About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To enjoy myself!

ABOUT ME

Hi, I am an Australian guy who recently returned form living in Norway, Netherlands and Romania and used my time there as an opportunity to travel and have different experiences to what I am used to.

I travel whenever I get the chance and as-such I have been to most European countries and many in the pacific and am looking forward to finishing the rest!
I am carefree, open-minded and I pride myself on being friendly and having a sense of humour.
I am cursed with an amazing memory and sense of direction. I enjoy getting lost because I always find my way through some miracle.

PHILOSOPHY

Do it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I try to never visit a country or city without meeting and talking with someone from there. I find that guide books are useless when you have locals who can tell you where to go and what to do. I would rather spend the money buying someone a beer and having a chat.
I like to meet new people and to understand the different ways in which people enjoy themselves.
I also find it great when you arrive in a new city and there are people to contact who can sit down and have a chat with rather than being alone.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My favourite was an ad-hoc surf where I stayed with a guy I met at a pub. He lived above the pub and at the time was the drunkest person I ever met. Was a fun weekend.
I have met many people through the project, been on some day trips and look forward to participating more.

Interests

I like to drink the local stuff. Be it beer, brandy, whisky or other.

I enjoy discussing and joking about History, Art, Sport, Partying, New Experiences, Politics. Basically anything that can reasonably be enjoyable. I am very cynical and don't take too many things seriously. So I apologise in advance.

I also want to one day own a submarine. It will be yellow and I will name it Homer because it will have many stories to tell!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like old things. Older movies, older music and older books.
I guess because at least after a while you can tell if it is just a fad or actually quite good! Time is a great quality filter. So I guess I would rarely read, listen to or see anything less than 5 years old!
Having said that I have recently been exposed to alot of music from Europe which is equally as good as British/Australian music. Everyone knows American music is horrible.

I really struggle to read fiction. Real life is far more interesting. I don't consider Wilde and some others fiction though. So no I haven't read any of the Harry Potter's or Dan Brown.
I also once watched every James Bond film. The Spy who loved me is the best one.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Snorkelling the Great Barrier reef
Snowboarding the Swiss Alps
The beauty and diversity of New Zealand
Getting lost in Sintra and having to walk/hike back to the train station.
The randomness and strange occurrences of Eastern Europe
Being forced to drink Tuica for breakfast.
I have performed on stage at the Sydney Opera House.
I also once dreamed that I was living in Antarctica and it was amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy learning bits and pieces of new languages and the different ways in which people live their lives.
I enjoy history and interesting pieces of art.
I am particularly interested in the real story rather than the text book interpretation of what happened! History is always written by the victor. I don't like this sad fact.
This can also be the source of many controversial/inappropriate things I may say but the intention is never malicious.

I also like cooking. I don't like using recipes I prefer to see where the journey takes me. Usually it works out but when it doesn't it usually isn't too bad.
