About Me

Hi, my name is Claire and I'm in my twenties. My travel partner is my best friend, Andy Renshaw (who is also a member of couch surfing.) I have a twin brother whom I sometimes go travelling with as well.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The problem with travelling, though a dream of many, including me, is money. Also, if you travel by yourself or a friend and only stay in hotels, you never meet anyone new. I am generally outgoing and friendly person and if you are going to be sleeping on my sofa for even one night, i am hoping you will leave as a friend. i expect the same from when I travel, i have friends all over the world and there is always room for more.

Interests

My main interests are reading and writing, i always have a notebook with me though somehow end up with notes all over my hands.

I also enjoy playing the banjo and tin whistle, i am still learning at the moment but in a couple of years hope to be as proficient as my teacher.

I also play Go. While not very well known in the West, it is a generally well known board game worldwide. Again, i am a beginner but greatly enjoy it anyway. I used to be an avid chess player as well, while my interest waned, though not completely, i play with my friends about once a week, the evening usually spills into checkers and go.

Music, Movies, and Books

I generally like all forms of music bar opera. i play folk and Irish music and have a penchant for Breton tunes as well.
I like listening to rock music as well, predominantly Rise Against. I also like bob Dylan, David Bowie and Suzanne Vega.
I don't watch television so I couldn't tell you the movies and programmes I like to watch but I like action films and i have to admit i like Disney and anything directed by Steven Spielburg.
I cannot choose my favourite books out of all I've read, so I'll stick with my favourite author, China Miéville. Story line is important of course, but the way things are written are more so to me. His way with words are so poetic and well done, i definitely recommend it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are lots of things I have done in my life that I'd say are amazing and may not be to another. That's what make up our lives.
One thing that people find amusing is that I starred on the teletubbies when I was 5 years old.
When I was ten years old I sang in the Royal Albert Hall in London
I got through to the under 18s national semi finals in chess 3 years in a row when i was a teenager

Teach, Learn, Share

I love hearing your stories. Everybody has one to tell and a trip is not worth it if you do not come away with an adventure to regale. travelling should be about doing something you love, not because you feel obliged or need to escape.

If you want to stay with me, don't be afraid to open up and offer your stories and hear them in return. Nothing means more to me than making the most of the moment, that's why i play go and chess and banjo and listen to music and read and write because they are all things that i enjoy.
