About Me

I'm originally from New Zealand, but I've been in the UK since 2011 and London since 2013. My accent fluctuates depending on who I'm talking to and how relaxed I am. I can make myself sound more Kiwi if that's something you're into.

I like being outside and in the elements - whether that's swimming in the sea or cycling home late at night in torrential rain.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like hosting and meeting new people. The way you experience a place changes when you get more of a window into local life - the whole tourist infrastructure kind of depresses me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm an avid reader - fiction and non-fiction. I've always loved the way books can give you a window into life from someone (or something!) else's perspective. I studied literature and philosophy at university, which was a great opportunity to spend a few years reading a range of stuff, and while my degree hasn't been that useful 'practically', it did definitely make me better at reading things that I find challenging. The downside is that I find it incredibly hard to give up on something that I'm not enjoying / is terrible - over the years I've slogged through some truly dire books.

I love music. My mum is a piano teacher - growing up, music was a big part of my life. I often wish I had space for a piano (I don't), but I do also play the guitar and have a couple of ukuleles, all of which you're welcome to use. I'm not sure what the consistent thread is for the music I like or listen to - I've been through periods of being obsessively into one thing, but these days I'm not as specific.

And unfortunately, I'm really clueless when it comes to TV and films. I grew up without a TV and haven't ever really got into the habit of watching it. I find films really potent - there's lots that have left a really powerful impact on me, but I feel like I need them in small doses! In the last few years I've enjoyed Embrace of the Serpent and the documentary Ama-San.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moving to the other side of the world at 21 felt pretty bold - but maybe more 'amazing' was the fact that it took me seven years to go back for a visit.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm trying to learn French, so if you're up for a language exchange that'd be excellent.

I know London pretty well now, so I can help you figure out how to spend your time here.

We also make sourdough bread so can show you how that works.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I've got a spare bike that you're welcome to use.
