About Me

(From 5th June to end of August I’ll be in Taipei, but later in September I’ll be back to HK!)

Hi this is Claire, a Taiwanese girl currently having my university education studying biotechnology (minoring fine arts) in Hong Kong. Traveling, art and music have been my greatest passions of life and I feel more of a complete person when enjoying them.

I'm more of a introvert but can be rather crazy and weird once I open up to someone. I can well adapted to unfamiliar environments, and enjoy the different pace of life. I have a lot of friends coming from diverse backgrounds and cultures here in Hong Kong and that's why I know how great it feels to make friends with all different kinds of people from every corner of the world! :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

this early summer I am planning to go on a backpacker trip by myself, for I am feeling quite lost with life at the moment. Budget is tight to me as I want this trip to be completely supported by only my personal income consisted of part-time salary and scholarships, which is not very much for a student, and I've heard quite a lot of my friend went on couchsurfing as a way to both economize and approach the real local culture, and they all turned out having good experiences. I guess this is why I choose to give an attempt to couchsurfing.

Music, Movies, and Books

Artists from Radiohead, Snow Patrol, LANY, Hyukoh, Adele, Tori Kelly, Kehlani, Ingrid Michaelson, Honne, Conan Gray, The Script, P!nk, Aimer, the Fray to Frank Ocean, Damien Rice, Debussy... I lost count...
Music Type from R&B, some 80s 90s, Indie, Acoustic Pop, Rock, Soul, Alternative Rock, Folk, British Rock, Kpop, K-indie...music is always beautiful regardless of language(even without language—I love classicals and some contemporary piano pieces also) do you really want me to list them all out??

Movies: My fav of recent years is probably Interstellar, the studio ghibli animation, and of course the Harry Potter series. good movies can be in all categories however!

Books: I perfer fictions over non-fictions. My recent fav is "Mitsubachi to Enrai" by the Japanese female award-winning writer Onda Riku, which is a fiction depicting a story about self-growing , friendship and love among some attendees of a national piano contest.
My all time favorite is probably "Spin" by Robert Charles Wilson, which is a science fiction talking about not only space and time but also humanity, love and more, making it significantly special.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just right now I am on a solo backpacking trip exploring through 5 countries in Europe—Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. It is the end of my first year in university and I kind of unintentionally gave myself this challenge—an all-alone-getaway thousands of miles from home, just so that I can abandon myself and embrace the vast world.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you to speak and write in Chinese (Mandarin) which is apparently my mother tongue! What’s more, I can write calligraphy (a kind of traditional Chinese character art which I’m quite good at) and some local snacks from Taiwan & Hong Kong in reward for you.
I am definitely not a professional chef but still got skills on some of the traditional Chinese/Taiwanese food(cuisine)!
I play guitar & piano, I draw as well. If you love music and visual arts as much as I am, I would love to share my stories and have some exchange in experience with you:)

What I Can Share with Hosts

some traditional Taiwanese cuisine cooking
interests/ passions for music & art
some special souvenirs(snacks, food, handcraft etc)from Taiwan and Hong Kong!
