About Me

I'm a South African architect living in Berlin and working in Nairobi. I work for a non-profit that builds houses and schools in disadvantaged communities. I'm enjoying living in Europe and having the opportunity to see much more of the world than I did when I lived at the other end of Africa.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet interesting people from around the world, and allow them an opportunity to travel cheaply... and vice versa!

Interests

Other than traveling I enjoy studying cities, sketching buildings and discovering new places by bike and running-shoe. Local food, drink and music are a "must try" when I visit a new place. Tell me about the gritty under-world of your city and I'll be your best friend. Send me to the graffiti and the forgotten spaces. I want to see the real-deal.... not just the instagram-pretty places.

Music, Movies, and Books

Living in Berlin means I get to see all the best artists on my doorstep. I love groove, electronic, funk, rock & roll, reggae and so much more.

Movies? I don't have a TV and usually fall asleep during movies

Books: Cloud Atlas; Shantaram; Anything by Terry Pratchett....

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Built an amazing structure in the middle of the desert at Afrika Burn with our awesome crew the NowNow Tribe.

Teach, Learn, Share

Constantly learning; not a particularly good teacher (I tried to do it in Vietnam once... the children destroyed me); happy to share what I've got :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

A light-hearted debate and easy, open conversations over a home-cooked meal.

I like to discuss opposing concepts of the world. I like to play the "devils advocate" and look at difficult situations from all perspectives. I like to talk about the difficult things in the world to see how others approach them.

Countries I’ve Visited

Czech Republic, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Italy, Kenya, Netherlands, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

Germany, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Viet Nam
