About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To be a better person.
ABOUT ME
Intelligent, irreverent, considerate, unimposing (hopefully), adventurous depending on mood. More to follow...
Also, it's listing my last log-in as being in Potwin, KS. I assure you that I am in the greater Salt Lake area! AND it says I live in Midvale, which is one town south of where I actually live, which is Murray.
PHILOSOPHY
I haven't distilled it down, yet. It might not be that simple.
I'm working on developing more compassion so that I may eschew judgement. My judgments, however, are always up for examination and change.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Generally I like to meet new people and guide them around Salt Lake! I love eating and skiing and hiking, and would like to show people where to do those things!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We've completed our maiden Couchsurfing voyage to Telluride and had some great, laid-back hosts! I'm sure we'll host in the future, and I'm sure we'll surf some more.
I've shown a wayward lad around SLC, as well, which was a delightfully rewarding experience!
Interests
(In no particular order)
Hiking, skiing, cooking, eating, learning new cultures and languages, finding (or being shown) stuff off the beaten path--good music, quirky little sculpture gardens, awesome hiking trails, bonfires in the woods, etc.
I'm somewhat bad at planning, but I DO want to make the most of any time I'm in a different place.

Music, Movies, and Books
Yes, I like them! More later.
Amelie, Big Lebowski (anything Coen Bros), Hunt for Red October, stuff with subtitles; forces me to focus.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, anything by Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Maeve Binchy, the classics (many of which I have yet to read)...
To be continued...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My exchange student year in Germany (Rostock '96-'97 school year) taught me a lot about myself, and helped me make some conscious decisions that shaped my personality in a drastic way.
Also, this past winter, I gave a lady the Heimlich maneuver! It worked. I'm proud of that.
Teach, Learn, Share
Kopi Luwak is coffee that's passed through the alimentary canal of a civet to give you the world's most expensive cup. I haven't tried it, but I'm intrigued.
7-25% of shishito peppers are spicy (not too spicy, though), and come from the same plant that the non-spicy peppers come from.
The word travesty, which is incorrectly used as a synonym with tragedy, is actually more akin to comedy or farce than it is to tragedy, which is, obviously, tragic.
In Myanmar, you would summon your server by making a kissy noise in their general direction. I dare you to try it at the St. Regis. ;-)
What I Can Share with Hosts
Food, glorious food, if we're road-tripping from Utah! I also left some sheets and pillows at our hosts' house because they didn't have many spares, but have lots of floor space.
Other than that, scintillating wit and a thirst for knowledge of the place we're staying.
More on this later, I assure you.
