About Me
Born in Germany, I was raised in lovely Austria in a small village that is not even too known in Austria itself. Growing up in a patch-work family, breakfast logistics for seven people, huge family gatherings and cooking sessions, movie nights and pillow fights were my daily bread - amazing times!
I made my first escape as a teenager, going to Madrid as a highschool-exchange student.
After finishing Highschool back in Austria, I decided to get my Bachelor Degree in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Those three years involved bright-orange Queens and Kings Days, stroopwaffels, new friends and lots of fun ... I miss my R'dam!
I am an AIESECer (LC Rotterdam - whoop, whoop) and also joined Rotaract in University after being a Rotary-child all my life. Going to RYLA is still on my bucket-list ...
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
What's the point of going to new places, only to get more of the same in terms of accomodation and touristy rip-off?
I am curious to get the feeling of living in a condominium, a houseboat, a maisonette, a caravan or maybe a penthouse... I also rather pay a round of beers at that little place around the corner than tripadvisor's choice of the day.
Interests
Get me started on organizational design and strategy and I'll never stop, give me to too beautiful a skypline or rooftop and I won't talk at all for a while.
I grew up in a family that regarded tech-gadget and technology as a necessary addition to any household and the world for that matter. If you're looking for an enthusiast (not necessarily ultimate expert) on 3d-printing, drones, oculus rifts, internet of things, smart city solutions ... I'll bring the wine.
I am aesthete; all the places I have live in over the last couple of years have never not felt like they weren't truely "mine". I use color, magazine ads, wood, souvenirs from everywhere, fabrics and designer paper bags to make my places cozy and stylish living spaces. Wanna talk about interior design?!

Music, Movies, and Books
One of my favourite books is by Canadian author Alistair MacLeod ‘No great Mischief” – reading this book inspired me to do my final year project on ‘Scottish immigration to Canada’ and to watch Gaelic youtube channels.
My favourite piece of classical music is the Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35 by Tchaikovsky – imagine my excitement when Radu Mihăileanu adopted the piece for the movie ‚Le concert’, staged in Paris. Growing up, my parents played at lot of Gaelic and Oriental music around the house, which has definitely impacted my taste. I am perfectly at ease with not understanding a word of what is being sung ...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I packed a backpack about my size, boarded a flight and moved to Madrid, not being able to say much more than 'Hola, soy Clara'. That year not only taught me Spanish with a Madrileno accent, but life lessons that still define me and make for my love for the language.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am the person to have that five hour discussion with on whether or not the totem in 'Inception' will eventually stop spinning and if there isn't a glitch of logic somewhere in the time layers.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am up for creating fusion-food, exchanging playlists, watching and discussing TED-talks, sharing stories about favourite places, things to do and not to do ...
