About Me

Hello! I am Clara and I am originally from Brazil. I moved to Belgium around 2 years ago (just before the first confinement) to work as an au pair looking after kids. My au pair program is over, but I decided to continue living in this country to restart my studies in Cinema. It has been amazing to finally see life getting back on track after this long dark period of lockdown. Borders are finally open, which made it possible for my sister (Luisa) to come visit me! It is her first time in Europe, so it would make no sense for us to just stay in Belgium, that's why we are planning some trips to countries close by. For now, we are certain of a trip to Paris and probably Amsterdam later on (depending on the new sanitary mesures).
Me and my sister don't have a big age difference, I am 23 and she is 25, we've always had common interests and we share everything (everything) even the same group of friends, which means we are very close and very similar. She works in the fashion industry in Brazil as a shoe designer and I used to work in a film company as a camera operator (before I came to Belgium). We both speak English, besides the Portuguese, and I also speak French. We are also very good at pretending to speak Spanish (Luisa more than me, but I can get my way around, too).
It is our first time travelling together, without parents or other friends with us. But we had a lifetime to get to know each other so normally everything should go well.

Unfortunately right now I can't be hosting people at my place since I am living with a host family, but I'd definitely love to have this experience once I get my own space.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I find it an amazing way of getting to know the city from a local's point of view and beyond the touristic parts. Also I am always travelling with a short budget, so CS is what makes it possible for me.

While I did some couchsurfing in these past two years in Europe, my sister never did. Everytime, I was very lucky to find amazing people in my way who welcomed me openheartedly and made me learn alot, which makes me want to share this type of experience with her, now that she is coming.

Music, Movies, and Books

Love listening to traditional music when I am travelling to get to know the culture from the places I go to, but I listen mostly to Brazilian music usually and I love introducing people to brazilian music "beyond Bossa Nova" (even though Bossa Nova is amazing as well).

Movies is a difficult topic since I am graduated in cinema, and find it hard to make up my mind on what I prefer. Some of my favorite directors are Yorgos Lanthimus, Céline Sciamma, Roy Anderson, Thomas Vinterberg, David Lynch, but there are so many others it is hard to list. The last amazingly beautiful movie that I watched was Les Olympiades (it makes me really happy to be returning to Paris soon and visiting some of the landscapes from the movie).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-A few times, I dreamed with things that ended up becoming true. (great story, would love to share)
-Got lost with a friend in a forest and had to jump a 2 meters high fence and walk by the highway to get back home.
-Found an abandoned camping, while I was looking for a place to set my tent, and camped inside next to an illegal rave party.
-Went away for chill nature camping with friends and found myself in a trance music festival by accident.
-Travelled alone with a couple that had just broke up, haha.
