Overview
About Me
My name is Clara Serena Millán. I’m 26 years old and I’m from Madrid, Spain.
Due both to the poor economic situation and the lack of work opportunities and fair salary for young people in my country, since May 2016 I'm doing an EVS in DZMP (Luksuz produkcija) in Krško (Slovenia), a film production project that allows me to create new films, develop my skills, learn about the Slovenian culture and grow personally.
I also lived for 6 months in Birmingham (United Kingdom), working as an au pair to improve my English, which enabled me to work as an English teacher while I was studying and pay the university fees. I really love teaching and working with children as much as learning new languages (English, French, Japanese…) to communicate with people from all over the world. As you can see, I love travelling and meeting new people from different cultures. Every time I can save some money, I go on a trip!
I’m also a cinema and music lover, I really enjoy going to concerts and music festivals. I also try to find time to read and I love cooking for my family and friends.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Since I can remember, I’ve been interested in people, their feelings and their lives. I used to write short stories about the people around me and I loved interviewing them. When I first bough my firs DSLR camera, I started taking photographs of people to document their lives and their experiences. That’s is why I’ve studied Documentary Filmmaking at the University. I want to be able to film stories about social issues, people’s lives, their feelings, their fears, joys and hopes. That's why I think that travelling and meeting new people is so important to me.
On the other hand, as I'm living in Slovenia during this year, I would love people to come and visit me and my flatmates, so we can really live an intercultural experience.
Interests
I really love listening to music, going to concerts or music festivals, reading and cooking for my family and friends. I’m a cinema-lover and I spend a lot of time watching movies at home or at the cinema. I’m fascinated by the Asian culture, specially the Japanese one, and I like learning new languages and travelling all around the world every time I can save some money (I’ve been in New Zealand, France, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Poland…). I love taking pictures (especially artistic and author photographs. One thing I love most is spending time with my friends, doing trips together, going to the countryside or just talking while having dinner.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I love metal and rock bands from Spain and other countries (AC/DC, Motorhead, Graveyard, The Doors, Extremoduro, Marea, Aerosmith, Oasis…), and I love new wave/rock/punk groups like New Order, The Clash, Joy Division…But I also like indie bands like Alt-J, Vetusta Morla, The Killers, Bloc Party, Kasabian, Motorama, etc. I actually love any kind of music and I don’t have any favourite band or style, I love from country music to Caribbean music like salsa or merengue.
Movies: Stoker (Park Chan-wook, 2013), Never let me go (Mark Romanek, 2010), Carnaje (Roman Polanski, 2011), Midnight in Paris (Woody Allen, 2011), M (Fritz Lang, 1931), Howl's Moving Castle (Hayao Miyazaki, 2004), The Shining (Stanley Kubrick, 1980), Nymphomaniac (Lars Von Trier, 2013), Once (John Carney, 2013), Trainspotting (Danny Boyle, 1996), Amelie (Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2001), Big Fish (Tim Burton, 2003) The Act of Killing (Joshua Oppenheimer, Christine Cynn, 2012), Tesis (Alejandro Amenábar, 1996).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I spent August, November and December 2016 making videos for an NGO that cooks for the refugees that have reached the island of Chios (Greece) with the intention to report the deplorable situation of the refugees in the island.
