About Me

Hola! My name is Claudia and usually people call me Clau which I like more :) I am Mexican and grew up mostly in Texas but recently living in the UK. I am semi nomadic you could say because I really like traveling to my heart’s content, being in nature or exploring new cities and spending time with animals so I often volunteer for petsitting or home swaps. Despite the bad things that happen in the world I think there is a lot of beauty to see and discover. I strive to embrace and understand as much as I can about myself and the world, to fill my cup with new experiences and learn from everything. Currently working remotely while I study and enjoy each day with intention✨

My main practices include:
Minimalism
Gratitude
Slow-living

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Since I travel solo a lot I think it’s super cool to have the opportunity to make friends and meet people from the different cities you may visit to get a more truthful sense of a culture like a local is the best way and those special moments together are the true mementos. I’m also very curious to see what the typical lifestyle of another person can be like as what is simple habit to one can be fascinating to another and sounds like a lovely and enriching experience :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I like classical music ballet scores and bands like Vampire Weekend, The Smiths. Steve Lacy, Frank Ocean, Britney Spears haha have very varied interests and always love exploring new artists especially in my target languages, always super glad to get good song recommendations.

Movies: The Wizard of Oz, American Beauty, Marie Antoinette

Books: my favorite book ever is Como Agua Para Chocolate (Like Water for Chocolate) also non-fiction and reading about philosophy, psychology, science, classic literature and other genres. My favorite authors include Sylvia Plath, Joan Didion, George Orwell, Jane Austen, F. Scott Fitzgerald

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I majored in Marine Biology and worked a lot with sea animals, also sea turtle conservancy!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love cooking and trying new flavors. One of the biggest reasons why I travel is to try the local food. I do eat balanced and healthy every day. Mexican dishes are my specialty as growing up I learned many recipes from my maternal family and proudly share how delicious they can be or debunk which are not authentic jaja

Would really love to learn to make traditional home-made recipes from other countries.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Cooking a tasty meal, you will for sure eat healthy if I'm in the kitchen!

True connection and genuine conversations are something I truly value. Deep conversations about the perennial questions, meaning of life, science, personal beliefs + past experiences but can also share funny stories, have a laugh about silly little trivial things and discuss celebrity gossip or entertainment, watch live sports or movies.

I really value personal space and routine so will make sure to respect any place I'm in.
