About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Around the world in as long as it takes

ABOUT ME

I went to art school before drifting into software development a few years later. Since then, my girl and I have taken a long-term sabbatical, fled the country and headed out into the world to see what there is to see (and to find a place to live that doesn't have ten months of winter every year). We've been travelling for almost four years and have visited 49 countries, and there are no signs of us slowing down any time soon.

PHILOSOPHY

I am always a gentleman... on Tuesdays.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't had the opportunity to host anyone yet, since I've been more or less permanently travelling, but I've surfed with ten or twelve people and the experiences have been great.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed with quite a few people on short-term stays (and a couple of them for weeks!) while on my world tour, and they've all been good and fascinating people.

Interests

Web development, gothic industrial and EBM music, photo and the other arts, seeing things I've never seen and running for my life in strange countries.

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently listening to Flogging Molly and Tom Waits, and rereading some fun weird fiction by China Mieville.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I remember moonrise over the Pacific in the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand, thinking the horizon was on fire. I remember cycling 160km in 5 hours one summer, after a 10-week intensive training programme. I remember being swarmed by San children in Namibia. I remember climbing a sand dune in the Sahara to watch the sun go down. I remember seeing vast herds of animals in the Serengeti. I remember traditional music in Ireland and climbing the highest mountain in the Slovenian Alps. I remember caves in a dozen countries and playing with feral cats everywhere. I remember freezing beside a glacier overnight in Dracula's home country. I remember a thunderstorm over Lake Malawi. I remember riding an ostrich in South Africa. I remember swimming on the brink of Victoria Falls. I remember deserts and mountains and jungles and savannahs and cities, and I remember friends everywhere.

Teach, Learn, Share

Your mother was right - don't put that in your mouth, you don't know where it's been.
