ABOUT ME

I am new on couchsurfing. I left my home in San Francisco in mid May, 2009, went to Texas to visit my folks for a week, on to London, then spent several weeks in Italy working with Legambiente in the Italian Alps. After that I spent 17 days on the Greek island of Kea restoring overgrown trails for an archaeological site with ELIX. [I am working on getting more photos up but after putting 2 up somehow the photo function has frozen :( ]

I returned to university some years ago, finished a PhD last year, but have not managed to find academic work and got tired of waiting. I needed a change of pace after several years of writing/waiting tables, so set off to travel again. I have had an amazing last few months, but have kind of arrived at the last part of my plans, and thought a good way to do something different would be to FINALLY get my couchsurfing page together! I am in Spain at the moment, but would like to visit people in the Czech Republic. I am also thinking about working with WOOF (organic farms), perhaps in France or Belgium, or in CZ.

PHILOSOPHY

Vonnegut wrote that people are dangerously "Busy busy busy". We need to relax and enjoy each other more - small communities of close, caring people is what we need more of.
