Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm new to this, but I'd love to surf, be happy to host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Even though I've been traveling off and on for a few years, I am new to Couchsurfing. I usually stay in youth hostels but am looking for a new kind of experience.

Interests

I love learning foreign languages, reading and writing about travel/life in general. I am a huge sports fan--especially basketball--and enjoy the outdoors. During the summer, I spend a lot of time barbecuing for my friends and family. I've been working on perfecting my barbecue ribs recipe for a few years, and I'm getting good at it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: folk, bluegrass, the blues, and older country like Hank Williams. Basically, I like anything with a slide guitar, a banjo and a fiddle. Lately, I've been listening to a lot of female jazz vocalists like Billy Holiday and the collaborations George Gershwin did with various singers. Radiohead is my favorite rock group. I like rap and R&B, too.

Movies: I'll watch anything once. I like Stanley Kubrick, Terrence Malick, Jim Jarmusch, Woody Allen, Ang Lee, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, and Spike Lee movies a lot. A guilty pleasure of mine would be the Fast and the Furious movies--love those.

Books: I'd say my two favorite authors are Henry Miller and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, but I'll try and read anything that is recommended to me.
