ABOUT ME
I am a 28-year-old writer who loves wandering around the country. I've been to 44 states. (California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Alaska and Hawaii still evade me!) I've lived in Alabama, New Jersey, Ohio, Vermont and Washington D.C.
I love love and lousy poetry. I appreciate, but cannot create, music.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I started out in this by writing a story about it for Cleveland Magazine:
http://tinyurl.com/2g54jr
and producing a companion piece for National Public Radio:
http://www.wcpn.org/index.php/WCPN/news/6240/
Since then, I've hosted and used the service for travel.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've hosted a few folks from a similar Web site -- and I regularly put up friends and friends of friends. I've also used the site to travel some. Usually for long weekends.
My couch surfing evolution: Reporter looking to find participants -> Reporter looking to be a participant for a story -> cheapskate looking to travel for less -> legitimate couch surfer who prefers couch surfing when traveling to meet interesting strangers and have a better traveling experience

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: I enjoy indie films, dramas and any action film with bad catch phrases and multiple explosions.
Music: Silver Jews, The Weakerthans, Pavement, The Shins, Ben Folds, Acid House Kings, Elliot Smith, Modest Mouse, Of Montreal, Peter Bjorn and John, White Stripes, Raconteurs, Tom Waits
Books: I'm usually reading two books at any given time.
One is fiction, and I could be indulging myself with a bestseller like any Richard Russo novel, or I could be reading a classic or something that I will later be irked to learn was selected as an Oprah book of the month (see: Poisonwood Bible and Middlesex).
The other is usually non-fiction, and it could be a book of essays, like any David Sedaris/David Rakoff/Sarah Vowell or it could be something like Bowling Alone or a book describing a region, like one I just picked up about the U.S. Highways of New England, how they got there, what they used to be like and what they're like now.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can offer help in writing, in teaching jitterbug swing dance and in figuring out how to play Sudoku..
I am always looking for things to learn.
