About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience all I can. To find hidden places. To climb and explore nature lots. To be a Jack of All Trades and an Ace of Two.

ABOUT ME

My favorite thing that someone has ever described me as is "a free spirit". I don't like being tied down, and I never think anything is good just because other people do, or because that's the way it's been.
I like adventure, science, and creating things.

PHILOSOPHY

Philosophically, I am a Reductionist, Positivist, Emotivist, and Atheist. I think that believing in an uncaring, chaotic, universe can actually lead to a greater sense of responsibility to other human beings. I value learning extremely highly, and think never ceasing to learn and to experience other people leads to great happiness.

I think experience is very important, and "it is better to have loved and lost than never loved at all" in all aspects of one's life. I live my life because it's the only chance I have at existing, which is a rather excellent experience.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I lived in a house in San Francisco where we were constantly hosting couchsurfers. It was wonderful meeting people from so many places!
I've also hosted at an apartment in Pasadena.

Interests

I like a ton of things! But some notable interests are: computational neuroscience, climbing anything and everything, artificial intelligence/machine learning, the ocean, the outdoors, growing plants, not wearing shoes, exploring, getting on the roofs of things, jewelry making(mostly wire earrings), personalities(thinking about and interacting with :D), biking, electronics, blowing things up, music, and lots more.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: These days I'm really into various forms of electronic, and various electronically influenced bands. Glitch Mob, Grammatik, Bastille, Little Daylights, Marina and the Diamonds, AWOLNATION, Bassnectar, Imagine Dragons to name a few of my favorites :). I love many types of music though.

Movies: I generally like most movies, and any one of excellent plot, deep philosophy, good special effects, or comedy will make me enjoy one. The Brothers Bloom, Lord of the Rings, Brick, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World come to mind at the moment.

The books I read for pleasure are mostly high fantasy or sci-fi, but other things too. Books that come to mind: Anathem - Neil Stephenson, The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss, Horseradish - Lemony Snicket, Foundation - Isaac Asimov, Vacuum Diagrams - Stephen Baxter, Good Omens - Neil Gaimon.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I've seen is probably Mt. Arenal(volcano) in Costa Rica, and the surrounding forest.
The most amazing thing I've done is climb a 4-pitch trad route by Storm Mountain in Utah.(only time I've ever done trad.) It was an awesome feeling to be climbing up a vertical windwhipped outcropping of rock, and look down and see cars hundreds of feet below you :D

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmmm. Well, I know a lot about neuroscience and computers. I know how to pick locks(easy ones :P). I also know some basic circuitry/how to make electronics projects. Also climbing, of course. I can make wire jewelry and know a bit of construction.
