Music, Movies, and Books

There are so many I could list here so I will put a few favorites.

Movies: Chinatown, The Big Sleep, Anything by Wes Anderson, The Usual Suspects, A Streetcar Named Desire, All About Eve, Ma Vie en Rose, Full Metal Jacket, Clue, The American President, Pan's Labyrinth, Sin Nombre.

Music: A mix of old classics and some newer indie stuff. Some favorites include The Velvet Underground, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, The Arcade Fire, Beirut, Depeche Mode, Bob Dylan, Mirah, The Black Keys, The Magnetic Fields, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Pixies, The Avett Brothers, Beach House, The Dresden Dolls, The Dead Weather, The Duchess and The Duke, The Head and the Heart, and oh so many more.

Books: Anything by Kurt Vonnegut, Graham Greene, George Orwell, Hemingway, Saul Williams or Jane Austen. I also read a lot of essay collections and plays.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Kenya I went to a post-Rahamadan carnival and saw dozens of women in traditional Muslim dress going around on one of those rides in which you sit on a swing and are spun around quickly in a circle. The image has stuck with me ever since.

Although I'm not Catholic, the Holy Week Processions in Popayan, Colombia are pretty amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know English as well as French and Spanish though I can't promise I would be able to teach the grammar perfectly. I could teach someone the basics on guitar. I think I am a pretty good cook though I have never tried to teach someone. I want to learn recipes from all over the world and I really want someone to teach me how to sing.
