About Me

CURRENT MISSION

After 6 years in the belly of the corporate beast, hitting the re-boot button.

ABOUT ME

My joke of the week: how does a pirate describe his vacation? (Reply for the answer).

Seen a lotta miles, lotta places, worked in a couple dozen fields (and I don't mean agricultural production--although I did once work in SoCal in strawberry and broccoli fields to pay for travel, for a couple weeks. With a Canadian. Who had nothing in his backpack when we met (him on his way back from Mexico to Canada) but freshly harvested Peyote buttons. We became intimately acquainted with broccoli and strawberry plants, in a way that most people never will :-).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Have after much bouncing around and unsettlement, now living in my own very pleasant little apartment with two cats. My estranged wife of 31 years lives with us--we're the best of friends. She needed a place after her return from a 20 month bike trip from here to Ushuaia, Argentina.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Within CS itself, I am a relative newcomer. However, as an extensive traveller I have shared space (mine and others') in a variety of rooms, yards, tents, driveways, boats and other vehicles, in North and Central America, Europe, the Middle East and the Caribbean.

Interests

Sobriety, love, writing, human relationships, music, travel, art, wilderness trekking, sailing, goofing off, and around.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:

1 - Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is the closest thing I can imagine to a Bible that I own. I have a leather-bound, gold-leaf-edged copy of the complete series on a side-table in my living room.
2 - Nearly anything by Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut.

Music:

Walk off the Earth, Planxty, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Rufus Wainwright, Tom Waits, Diana Krall, etc. etc. etc.

Movies: Dr. Strangelove; Solaris; Sacrifice; The Fifth Element; Chocolat; Groundhog Day; Serenity...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The look in her eyes, the sound of her voice, the touch of her hand...

Sitting on the deck of a 50' sailboat in mid-Atlantic with no awareness of anything except the motion of the boat, the infinite color, depth and movement of the ocean, waves rolling from the stern, sounds of the sea, wind and the rigging, clouds scudding across the sky.

Peace.
