About Me

Hey, i'm Cody, i'm a student from Melbourne, Australia and i'm also working as a swimming teacher and doing some travelling when I can.

I grew up in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne and have always loved sports, music and being outdoors. People might find me a bit quiet at first but much more expressive once I get to know you a bit! Currently, my biggest interests are film photography (I bring my old camera with me nearly everywhere), music (I can play lots of different instruments!), and rock climbing. I am studying two degrees at the same time, one in international relations (kind of like global politics), and one in environmental science. I love discussing topics like politics and the environment and am always interested to hear other people's perspectives on issues.

I have been spending much of my time travelling over the last few years, mostly through Europe as I have some family and friends there, but am already planning to spend some time in North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia in the near future. At this point in my life, I find travelling and meeting new people is the best way for me to learn about the world, while learning how to better interact with and understand people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because I want the opportunity to meet new people and to see places and things I otherwise would not be able to see on my own. I really enjoy meeting new people whilst I am travelling but have always found it hard to meet locals, as they can often be preoccupied with their own lives. Couchsurfing seems so be a fantastic opportunity for me to meet some likeminded people, create strong relationships, and have lots of fun doing so.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
I have been a musician for all my life so I like lots of different genres of music!
At the moment I mostly listen to electronic artists such as Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Massive Attack and Four Tet. However, I grew up mostly listening to rock and alternative artists, such as The Strokes, Radiohead, The White Stripes, Muse, Queens of the Stone Age and Rage Against the Machine. Other big musical passions i've been through are rap/hip-hop (for example: A Tribe Called Quest, Kendrick Lamar, OutKast, J. Cole and Skepta), and Jazz (Oscar Peterson, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk etc.). This is only a handful of what I find myself listening to, and I really enjoy live music/DJ sets as well!

Movies:
Any Tarantino, Scorsese, Wes Anderson or Stanley Kubrick film, Blade Runner, Fight Club, The Matrix, Alien, Whiplash, any Studio Ghibli film, Léon: The Professional, the Indiana Jones films, The Big Lebowski, Akira, The Revenant and so many others.

TV:
Game of Thrones, Seinfeld, Fawlty Towers, Breaking Bad, Rick and Morty, The Simpsons, South Park, Top Gear, Narcos, Vikings, plus more.

Books:
Life of Pi, The Kite Runner, Things Fall Apart, Solaris, Nineteen Eighty-Four, The Revenant, Slaughterhouse Five, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and more!
