About Me

I am from the US but have lived in Iceland for a year and a half. I like to think I do not fit the typical American stereotype as I have actually left the country, but my charming Kansas accent comes out every once in a while :)
I am very involved in the local environmental and queer scenes, so if you want to learn about them, or can teach me about the scenes in your city, I would love to meet you! I work at a collective housing over 200 artists in all different creative industries and see the place as a sort of second home--I believe strongly in the concept of found families. I have a lot of ideas of how I would like to see the world changed, but I also believe that there has been many positive changes (but of course the world can always be better). I really enjoy hearing people's thoughts about the world.
I really like Iceland but want to see more places before I settle down anywhere for too long.
If you want to see more pictures of me and where I have been, try me on instagram (codyskahan)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have had a great experience meeting people at hostels and campgrounds, so I thought I would also give Couchsurfing a try. I am an anthropologist, and so my main goal of traveling is to get to know the local people and culture, without having too many expectations of what to expect. Most of my international traveling has been for conferences (academic or environmental), which gives me an excuse to explore new places that I would not always go to.

Music, Movies, and Books

During my recent Sci-Fi novel binge, Neal Stephenson and Cixin Liu were my favorite discoveries, while I have probably read more fantasy than anything else (but love to read almost any genre--if it takes me a while to respond, I am probably finishing a book).
I listen to all sorts of music (over 20,000 liked songs in my spotify library), but my favorite genres are pretty basic--indie/alternative, rock, and classic or other ambient/instrumental music.
In terms of movies, I like very artistic and creative films like Studio Ghibli, Wong Kar-Wai, Bong Joon-ho, as well as movies that make you think about life, the world, and what it all means.
