About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn Mandarin, Go to China, Make new Friends

ABOUT ME

I'm quiet, love my motorcycle, and I don't let the weather stop me. I listen to all sorts of music and right now I'm focusing on studying Mandarin.

I recently started a job doing online advertisement webcopy (fancy way of saying I probably know more about Hondas than you).

I've got an itch in me to do something, travel, or whatever, I'm not sure. I'm feeling stagnant lately though and so something needs to change.

Since my job is online, I can go anywhere. Since I have a bachelor's degree, I meet the Z Visa requirements of a foreign expert of English in China. I had a Chinese roommate in college, and was active in China club there, with other Chinese friends. So, why not, I'll go to China.

Interests

My motorcycle is my #1 hobby, but I also enjoy volunteering. I've had lots of positions in the helping professions, and really enjoy what I do.

I'm involved in the Free and Open Source Software movement, mostly as a beta tester for the current developing release of Ubuntu.

I also play upright bass. I'm an experienced jazz bassist, and currently playing in the New Horizons Band at the FIM.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing Tahquamenon Falls for the first time was amazing, so I went back last fall with my girlfriend at the time. We had an amazing time, and we also went to Munising to see Pictured Rocks.

Making my first trip to Cleveland and back on my motorcycle was amazing, it wasn't in as good mechanical condition as it is now (I was missing my exhaust collars!!) but travel on it now is a lot more fun since I'm not always afraid of it falling apart.

The second time I tried going to Cleveland (for a job interview, no less), I lost an entire shock off of my motorcycle. It just broke off. I ended up driving 60 more miles before stopping to see why things were more bumpy. In hindsight, it was extremely dangerous, but now I can joke that I can put "capable of doing the impossible" on my resume!
