About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To write everyday, meditate everyday, and see something new... most days

ABOUT ME

I'm a kid searching for my path in life. I love to drink coffee, meet new people, and eat good food. Probably because I'm young but I've had a hard time deciding on what I want to do with my time here, so now I'm spending my time trying new things. In the last 2 years I've lived at a meditation center, traveled the west coast by car, worked at an upscale restaurant, sat around for months at a time, made incredible friends, lost incredible friends, and now I'm traveling again, this time on foot, taking trains and busses when I can but mostly hitch hiking. I see life as a collection of experiences, none ultimately better or worse than the others, it's just up to the individual to find what they like most. That's what I'm trying to do.

PHILOSOPHY

Day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment, work towards your dreams. As long as your heading the right direction there is no choice but to reach your goals. That and, it's all good, makes me a happy boy!

Interests

I love to read, and to learn, I've just started writing, and all of these things are complimented by my love of coffee. These are my sedate interests, but my one true love is Ultimate Frisbee. Watching a frisbee fly through the air is an experience I have yet to be able to match with anything else, and it's the thing that brings me the most peace in life. These last six months have seen the birth of a new interest, in that of fine dining. I realized six months ago (it was my first day at a new job at a restaurant called La Condesa in Austin, TX) that I had never eaten real food before and had my taste buds revolutionized every other day for my entire stay there. So to sum it up I would call myself a philosopher, foodie, activist, artist, ultimate frisbee player. Ha in other words I'm pretty well interested in everything!

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently I'm reading Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon (it's wild), and my favorite albums at the moment are, depending on mood, Remixes Volume 2 by Ratatat, Youth Lagoon by Youth Lagoon, and Bach's Cello Suites by Yo-Yo Ma.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My go to moment that left me floored was visiting Machu Picchu. The detail, skill, and effort required to build that left me speechless and in awe for hours. The rocks were so precisely carved they seemed almost as if they had grown that way, they were too perfect. And then to look out across the valley and be told that there were no rocks on the mountain we're standing on, they had to all be moved from that other mountain... the one miles away, across the entire valley, with out wheels. Beautiful. My other more recent moment that stopped me in my tracks was deceptively simple. It was the first tostada that I was given to try at La Condesa. It was their tostada de atun, sliced yellow fin tuna, on top of pickled cucumbers, and chipotle mayo, with a small dollop of habanero mustard and crispy shallots on top. Wow, the freshness of the fish, with the spiciness of the chipotle and habanero, and the saltiness of the pickle and soy sauce the fish is tossed in, plus the crunchiness of the shallots and tostada... First times are always the best, and that is a tostada I will never forget.
