Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

To employ my determination and ingenuity to inspire and facilitate others to discover and live in alignment with their core values

ABOUT ME

Well, I have been roaming around the streets of Bangkok on foot inspiring or bewildering shopkeepers, technicians and metalworkers with my diagrams, limited Thai and hand-gestures as I try to convey my apparently strange requests for where and who to see about renewable energy-related bits and pieces.

Since then I've travelled up North to Chiang Mai -- doing pretty much the same stuff, although customising a little electric scooter for transport and as hands-on investigation/pilot for a project I was planning to kick-off in Melbourne.

There's a bit of backstory, which I'm going to have to fill-in later.

PHILOSOPHY

Everyone is unique and amazing, to be appreciated and respected for wherever they're "at" on their journey.

I try to live with a spirit of simplification, resilience, ecology, evolution and innovation.

{
Things still seem to get a little complicated, such as transporting and keeping equipment and people together while shooting and then editing a documentary is certainly not living a simple life, but that stuff comes quite naturally to me -- and the content is often talking "simplification" and getting down to earth ;)
}

There are numerous systems and machines that we've created or those before us have built, some of which may be due to be actively re-designed or perhaps dismantled. Re-skilling, accommodating and nurturing those people affected by these industrial changes is a major element of the transition from the old way to the new.

I've heard this termed "Just Transition" in recent discussions.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been couch surfing for a few years and love the level of connection, support and learning it leads to.

In Melbourne we've revently had the privilege to host a few speakers on the pioneering field of Vitality and Inspiration.

It's awesome to share inside info about how to find good food, markets and cafes/libraries to hang out at.

I'm sure to mention CouchSurfing.org and the real-ness of the philosophy in each conversation about travel and accommodation.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Only just starting on this site myself.

Have slept in a bed at a friends place that is often given to CouchSurfers!

Intereses

Community Building, Resilience, Simplification.

Having said that, right now it looks like I'm focussing on renewable energy and wireless networks to support information technology that's being used for "Community Building". I'd regard that as "Pretty Complicated" -- that's where my focus on Resilience comes in: use complicated technology as a tool, then make that tool resilient and ideally as self-sufficient as possible, i.e. info tech to manage Community Currency projects powered by a local source of renewable energy like solar and wind, utilising a few low power peer/clustered local servers and local networks (maybe local wireless).

I suppose "Simplification" is in there to help remind me to keep the "complexity" as tool-related as possible :)

Algo increíble que he hecho

Shared a face-to-face moment with a baby elephant that came out of nowhere to scare away a pack of dogs that were giving me a hard time.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

Teach/Share/Learn: could teach you some Qigong and Thai Yoga forms if you like, or maybe you could teach me a meditation or exercise you know.

Teach/Share/Learn: I've had a lot of experience at intuitively spotting points of weakness in systems, on all kinds of scales.

Learn/Share: Lately I've begun to look at ways to convert that skill into constructing robust and resilient systems and proposing transition strategies from the old to the new, applying the same intuitive sense to the transition strategy. I've started to inspire people in this area, but am looking to work seriously with policy makers and disaster managers.

Share/Learn: System design and development, Software, Knowledge Management, Electric, Electronic design and repair

Teach/Share/Learn: Videography, Editing...
