About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to contain my thirst for adventure and fun whilst i 'grow up'

ABOUT ME

Grew up in a small village called Maulden, England (fact:longest village in the UK). I went to state school until i was 18 then decided to take a gap year in which i worked for 6 months, saved up and then blew it all travelling for 6 months...and just like that i was hooked on 'travelling'. So i went to University in Nottingham and studied Business with a focus on Entrepreneurship. I enrolled on a 'sandwhich' course which meant in the middle of my degree i had to get an industrial placement. I worked in Marketing at Microsoft for a year. During my time at MS and in my final year i started a couple of businesses (property and a website) which i will continue with when i return home in June 2012. Travel wise...I was lucky enough to travel with my parents quite a bit when i was younger on their holidays to Europe, USA and Asia. I went on rugby tour to South Africa and I have also skied extensively all over Europe. Longer trips have included:1st trip San Francisco, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong2nd trip China3rd tripChina, Japan, Thailand, Laos4th and current tripChina, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, New Zealand, Australia, French Polynesia, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Colorado, Texas, Utah, Las Vegas, California, Columbia, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil...HOME

PHILOSOPHY

Someone said "youth is wasted on the young"...I'm determind by the time i get 'old' that i will look back on my youth and think that i didn't waste a moment. You've got to work hard but enjoying life has got to be a priority as i think you only get one shot at it. You're in the drivers seat, make life what you want and throughout it all keep smiling.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have surfed a number of time and now that i am settled back in Nottingham I am looking to host people so I can keep meeting interesting people who are still on their adventures.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I found out about Couch Surfing whilst travelling and have participated a number of times. It's a truly AWESOME! project and i have loved my experience so far. I have couch surfed in New Zealand, French Polynesia, USA and Columbia and have now hosted a few people too. I have also introduced a number of people to the website and am yet to hear a bad experience!

Interests

I take an interest in all manner of subjects. I love to learn so being introduced to new topics is all part of the big picture i guess. I would say my 3 biggest passions are travelling, skiing and rugby.

Music, Movies, and Books

MusicI hate to be one of those guys who says 'well a bit of everything'...but i am. I guess most of my music collection is pretty chilled, a lot of acoustic guitar in there. Listen to whatever is in the charts and more recently when i've been out the night usually ends in some drum'n'bass/dubb step hole. MoviesAny big releases, got a lot of time for a good comedy but a lot fo the movies i end up watching are adventure/thrillers. The Departed, LayerCake, Casino Royale, BooksI read a lot of autobiographies. Read some business and self reflective books. Also jumped on the Harry Potter bandwagon which i think is a trip.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I BLODDY LOVED skydiving. I've done it 4 times now and am looking into getting my solo licence. I first did it over Franz Josef in New Zealand, jumping from 15,000ft, it's cold, really cold. You can see Mount Cook and Mount Tasman, NZ's two highest peaks. Scattered amongst the mountain range you can see numerous glaciers weaving down to the valley floor. Further afield you can see the East and the West coast of New Zealand's South Island filled with temperate rain forest. The freefall is sensory overload, you can't process all the feelings at once, the feeling of falling/spinning, the noise, the temperature, the view, the rush of the wind hitting you at 125mph. Then the jerk of the chute as you rapidly lose pace. It feels like someone pulling you back up into the sky by the harness. As you sit there in silence trying to process what just took place, the chemicals rushing in your bloodstream you finally get chance to take it all in. I would reccomended everyone to a skydive at least once in their life.
