Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

To make the most of my life and finish my education.

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in Colorado, the only child of a minister. I had a fairly normal childhood, aside from the extraordinary pressures of having a pastor for a father and being placed on a pedestal. When I was 20 years old I devoted my life to pursuing truth through religious studies, so I studied at a seminary in Missouri. Always the ambitious one, I wanted to become a scholar and teach religious studies at a university. But after years of studying religion, philosophy and history I lost my faith in religion and much of humanity. My ambitions continued and the fear of leading a mundane existence motivated me to do something great and potentially lasting with my life and I dedicated myself to studying medicine, so that I might be able to go to Third World countries and giving out free medical care. As Bertrand Russell said: "The only thing that will redeem mankind is cooperation."

I have done extensive traveling since my childhood, visiting countries to set up free medical clinics for the poor and disparaged, always helping from the sidelines. Now I want to be an integral part of the solution to end suffering in the world.

In 2010 I started medical school and it's been an interesting journey so far. I lived in the Caribbean for 18 months and now that I'm back in the U.S. the next year and a half of my life will consist of traveling around the country and learning in various clinics the application of medical knowledge. I look forward to improving my clinical skills but also driving around from city to city and meeting new people. So far that journey has taken me to Maine, Atlanta and Las Vegas.

PHILOSOPHY

My biggest fear is wasting my life; it is important that I do something with it or face a lifetime of dullness.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've let people crash on my couch and I'm hoping to start surfing couches myself.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had the pleasure of meeting some great people through CouchSurfing and have yet to have a negative experience.

Interessi

I've dedicated my life to helping people through medicine and science, so those are certainly at the top of the list. When I'm not studying or in the clinic I'm constantly reading or watching movies. I dabble in writing and photography, and I've always been into hockey. I've recently reignited a passion for philosophy (who doesn't like the occasional deep conversation) and have recently started studying Zen. I try to be a regular practitioner of yoga when time allows, and since I'm from the mountains I enjoy a nice hike every now and then. You could easily describe me as a huge nerd.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

I've traveled to 12 countries on 4 continents assisting doctors in giving free medical care to those who don't have access to it.

Insegna, impara, condividi

I'm well versed in science and medical knowledge but I'm also a veteran traveler. I've seen the highest of the highs and lowest of the lows that the world has to offer. I'm a decent cook, a conversationalist and always willing to help out in any way that I can.
