About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I'd like to learn as much as I can, meet people, know myself, and have a lot of fun.
PHILOSOPHY
Life is difficult and time passes quickly. It's important to work hard and devote yourself to what you love, since that sort of passion and skill can be transferred to anything worthwhile. I always want to improve and surprise myself.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I just joined CS and am super excited to meet new people. I'm studying abroad in Athens right now and would love to meet locals when I travel this spring and summer. I can't really host anyone until I get home, but I'm game for spending an afternoon at historical sites or in a cafe.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
None - I've heard great things from my friends, though.
Interests
The arts and humanities - I love music, literature, and fine art, as most people do. That's what I study at school. (I'm very lucky.) I like photography a lot. I used to work in film/darkroom but now I have a color digital. I also love to sing and can play the clarinet and banjo. Because I'm in Athens I'm loving history of the Ancient World (I study Latin, some Roman stuff) and Christian/Eastern Mediterranean history. If you follow hipster music coming out of the US and English-speaking locales (think Pitchfork), I do really love that kind of music, have since middle school. I really like hiking, I'm starting to get into the habit of running, and I love learning what I can of new languages. Math and science are obviously important, too, as are practical interests like business or medicine, but right now I'm interested in all the incredible human works (creative or otherwise) that I have the luxury of learning about. Most of all, I'm interested in people and how they live. We definitely have something in common, you and I.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like music, movies, and books! I wrote some of it out, even though it doesn't matter.
Music: I love what many call 'indie rock,' like Animal Collective, Wolf Parade, Liars, LCD Soundsystem, Joanna Newsom, Cocorosie, James Blake, Beach House, The Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, My Morning Jacket, etc. My last.fm page is [http://www.last.fm/user/concinne]. But I also love folk music from different places - American bluegrass and old-time country is great, as is Sacred Harp singing (awesome!). Classical music really enchants me, especially more minimalist or experimental stuff from the 20th century (John Cage, Steve Reichs, Nico Muhly). I'm in a Slavic a cappella group at school so I love Georgian/Bulgarian/Russian music as well as Tuvan singing and the instrumental works I know from Asia and other places. I'm always into new stuff and have a high interest in weird/experimental stuff.
Books: My favorite authors are probably Marilynne Robinson, David Foster Wallace, William Faulkner, JD Salinger, and Vladimir Nabokov. Even though I've read a lot of books in my life they never feel like enough. I tend to adore the Western literary canon and prefer classics or contemporary stuff to genre fiction, but I'm open to anything. Great books: Housekeeping, Citrus County, Infinite Jest (really), The Sound and the Fury, Nine Stories, Good Omens.
Movies: Punch Drunk Love, The Philadelphia Story, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Matrix (whoo), Lord of the Rings, Breaking the Waves, I Am Love, Amelie, Harold and Maude (fun fact: I've seen it live in Greek), Where The Wild Things Are, There Will Be Blood. I like TV - I (used to or do) watch The Office, 30 Rock, and Bones.
I like lots of stuff. That should give you an idea. Always looking for new things.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've gotten virus-sick in the middle of Mongolia and stayed up in the middle of the night outside the tent, feeling very shivery, looking at the stars. I could hear dogs barking and every once in a while a human voice. I felt very alone and kind of perfect.
Teach, Learn, Share
American Literature, American folk music (some - esp. Sacred Harp), indie rock, Latin, Ancient history and archaeology, Art History, bits of World History, computers and the internet (articles to blogs to pictures of cats), Poetry, Photography (some history and methods)... we'll find something to teach each other.
