One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing things that I have seen is a school called Casa Xalteva which is located in Granada, Nicaragua. The school takes many workers from factories and trains them to be skilled teachers. They teach english at the school, earn a higher wage than they would at a factory, and also contribute to Casa Xalteva in funding a children's program where they take poor children off of the streets and fund their education and give them and after/before school program. I worked with them for two weeks with a few others from my College and it was a truly unforgettable experience to meet these children and the people who run the school.

Another fantastic event just happened recently. I have gotten a scholarship two years in a row from my school where I have been able to create my own project and execute it. This year, I went to Chicago to learn about the Hispanic Identity there through muralism in the Pilsen area. I took a Pilsen Mural Tour which was given by Jose Guerrero, who took me to see his workshop, various murals around the area, and who also had me meet another artist of the murals who was working on building a mosaic for a public building at the time. I was able to interview them both and I was so moved, that I almost started crying! It was incredible to be talking to the pioneers of public art in Chicago.
