About Me

Born and raised in Los Angeles, but I went to college in Iowa where I studied philosophy. Still have the warm and fuzzies from living in the middle of nowhere in an icy hell with some of the coolest people I've ever met. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately...?) I'm in Nashville, getting my PhD in philosophy, but we'll see how far I get... hahaha... but actually.

Other interesting facts about me: Trashy reality tv shows (the bachelor) and top 40 hits hold a special place in my heart. Descriptions about me from my friends generally resemble: "would be basic if she didn't study philosophy." While true, don't let it deter you from becoming my friend.

I also realize that I have zero reviews. I swear I'm not a murderer, but I guess you'll have to find out! I guess that's not very inviting...

Just kidding. I couchsurfed a couple years ago in Italy and have been wanting to pay it forward ever since, but as you can imagine, not many people come through the town of Grinnell, Iowa, so maybe this is my chance now that I'm in Nashville!

(Accomodations: Futon that becomes a couch, my great company, and no pets for those with allergies like myself).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

to meet cool people!!!!! WOOHOOOOOO!! and of course to pay it forward

Music, Movies, and Books

1. Books relating to philosophy of race, philosophy of law, epistemic injustice, Hegel (ahhh i said it; if you've ever read Hegel, you'll understand my uneasiness at saying I like reading him), stuff about colors and concepts. Won't bore you with the details unless you're really masochistic!

2. The State of Exception by Giorgio Agamben, which is basically a discussion about how the state of emergency and exception, which is usually deployed in war as a way to circumvent laws and expectations regarding civil liberties, has become normalized, particularly in post 9/11 America. Cool stuff! Also I love my political and social philosophy.

3. Trying to go down the Non-Fiction Pulitzer Prize winning book list. I'm at zero so far. Working on it... hahaha

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I studied abroad in high school in Italy and lived with a host family, I managed to never once successfully open my front door in an entire year of living there. There was something about the key and me and the lock on the door and I feel like we just didn't really vibe. I think there's a real accomplishment to be found there.

When I was traveling in Malaysia once, I was late for my water taxi and was about to grab my backpack and saw that a spider sac had just exploded on my backpack and had released probably around a 100 or so baby spiders on my backpack, and I just threw it on my back and ran towards the water taxi. I have to say, I don't know if this is amazing, but I was pretty darn proud of myself.

I trekked for four days through beautiful rural villages in Myanmar with 2 Dutch people, 1 other American who I had never met before, and a pack of dogs that had followed us.

Teach, Learn, Share

I will teach you to catch birds or catch birds for you. I'm flexible. I'm serious. I used to do it as a kid.

Supplies: metal cage (think hamster cage but not colorful), some seeds, a wooden stick, and a piece of string

In short, if you've been wanting a pet bird, I can make that happen for you.

I can also wax you using sugar and lemon juice.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A futon, humor, stories, ability to catch birds, and good company.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, France, Myanmar, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland

Countries I’ve Lived In

Italy, Malaysia, United States
