About Me

Hi there!

You can check out some of the technical details below, like "Connor is 25 and male" or "Connor has the following specific interests like nature and bad puns, ect.".

Ultimately, I just really like people and stories. Good people fuel good stories and good stories fuel good people. Thankfully, I've found that neither of these things are in short supply.

I also like you. You seem cool.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's an astoundingly useful tool that runs mostly on human kindness. We need more things in the world like Couchsurfing and I've loved every bit of my involvement with the app.

Interests

I'm something of a nerd. I love stuff like old movies, sci-fi, comic books, and science news. I also love seeing other people get passionate about the things they're nerds about.

I love music. I love seeing it live, playing it with people and just sharing or discussing what people like and why they like it.

I also love food. Not in an "I want to explore every restaurant and take some pictures of well plated cuisine" way (although that's cool too) - I just love cooking with people. I've built my life around picnics, dinners and snacks of all forms.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music
To start -Jazz, Folk, Rock, Hip-Hop, Soul and North American Indie (old and new) with my favourite band probably being Hey Rosetta! - they wrote some beautiful stuff.
I haven't really listened to a whole lot of Punk, Metal, or Country, so if you're a fan, please show me your favourites.

Books
I tend to really like reading plays, especially ones by Tom Stoppard or Martin McDanagh (also Shakespeare - love that guy). A childhood of favourite of mine was the Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarter and some more teenhood favourites are The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss.

Movies
Some that I Currently Love: 7 Psychopaths, High Fidelity, The Wind Rises, and Local Hero.
I also enjoy any old B-Movie shot on a 10-cent budget (like Kung-Fu from Beyond the Grave (1982) or Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959)

Art
Not the most well read on the classic artists, so you'll need to teach me. I absolutely love Cartoonists though. I grew up on Gary Laarson, Bryan Lee O. Malley, Hayao Miyazaki, Bill Waterson, and Dan Piraro. I've also really started to love any comics that Alex Ross illustrated (seriously talented man).

Podcasts
Canadaland, The Effort Report, Radiolab, My Brother My Brother and Me, My Dad Wrote a Porno, The Adventure Zone.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

With almost no knowledge of sailing (and the complete lack of good judgement that comes with being 18), 3 friends and I built a sailboat and took it out one of the great lakes of Canada for an 11 day adventure. I learned a lot about how much can go wrong in a homemade boat and had an amazing experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you have a guitar that you worry is feeling unloved and underplayed, I'd be happy to teach you a little. I love to teach.

I brew beer! I may have some home-brews if I feel like they're good enough to share.

I can show you how to not juggle. Seeing my complete lack of coordination will surely make you feel much better about your own juggling prowess and give you the confidence you need.

I studied computers in university and can be (Sometimes....?) provide useful tech knowledge. I get that not many people travel with a laptop but if I can help then I'll feel like my degree did a cool thing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A meal, a drink, a story, some company, a joke (It will be awful and deserving of an accompanying trombone sound effect), a helping hand...

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Dominican Republic, England, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Scotland, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
