About Me

I'm from Dublin and have just moved to Belfast. I used Couchsurfing a lot while traveling in the Balkans, mostly for just meeting up, and I always appreciated what it offered and (usually) found people on it to be interesting and kind. I'm not in a position to host right now but hope to sometime when I have a little more space.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As a solo traveller it seems like a great way to meet people.

Interests

I am a naturally curious person. Some would say obsessively curious. That applies to all my interests and whenever I travel I like to stay for a longer period of time to try and gain an actual understanding of a country or city that goes deeper than the main tourist sites. I believe in the idea that you don't understand a city unless you have been bored there. This forces you to engage with the culture.

Music, Movies, and Books

A lot of indie rock from the late 90s/early 2000's but I have a broad range of terrible musical taste :)

Reading all though Dickens at the moment. Although there is some philosophy I enjoy I know that I'm quite a simple person st heart who most enjoys strong narratives and humour. Donna Tartt, GK Chesterton, Paul Murray, John LeCarre, Don Winslow, Tom Wolfe, Flann O'Brien, Edith Wharton, Dorothy Parker.

My favourite movie is probably Chinatown which is problematic. I like a lot of movies so hard to make a list but I always seem to watch the before sunset trilogy when I'm sick so that probably days something about me .

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazingly stupid thing I did was lose my passport during the height of the refugee crisis. I got a train from Budapest full of asylum seekers without a passport and managed not to get thrown into prison which was amazing in its own right.

Teach, Learn, Share

I technically have a tefl degree so I can help you with your English if you want. I'm most interested in learning about other cultures.

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Netherlands, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Ireland, Serbia
