About Me

I grew up in Dublin and studied in the UK. After graduating I moved back to Ireland, and I'm working now with the education section of a local trust that aims to reconnect locals with nature and food-farming.

I love being in nature and working with animals. I enjoy meeting new people and see each opportunity to do so as a chance to learn something new!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm currently spending a year travelling and volunteering in Asia. I have already seen lots of incredible places and met some wonderful people, and see couchsurfing as a way to continue doing that.

Interests

Entertainer W. C. Fields said "never work with animals or children".

I enjoy doing both! Before travelling I dealt daily with farm animals and school children in work, and I've worked with wild animals in the past. I find it very rewarding, and I think many people stand to benefit from a closer relationship with nature. I have also worked with students from Montessori age to end of secondary school teaching them about food farming and nature, and have led preschool football and rugby sessions.

I read comics, I cycle a lot, and I like to cook. I'm interested in Buddhist concepts, and have taken part in several mindfulness and meditation retreats.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Garden State, It's Kind of a Funny Story, Imitation Game.

Music: Radical Face, Slow Club, Ben Howard, First Aid Kit, Sigur Ros.

Books: Of Mice and Men, The Book Thief, The Beach.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2012 I spent three months in a wildlife rescue centre in Canada. I got to bottle feed orphaned deer, play foster-parent to a group of baby raccoons, and release wild coyotes back into the mountains.

Teach, Learn, Share

My formal and informal education has included a lot about biology and nature, which I am interested to share and expand upon. As a native English speaker I am happy to practice with anyone trying to learn the language.

I am interested in learning more about the spirituality and culture of countries that I visit. I am learning french, and appreciate any oppurtunities I have to practice.

Canada, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Scotland, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Wales
