CURRENT MISSION

I wouldn't call this a mission, as I have no idea if I'm going to do it or not, but having recently quit my job and started delivering for Uber Eats, I've realized I could go to literally any metropolitan area and have some income. The only thing stopping me is the cost of shelter. So I'm interested in going to new places for a week or two at a time, delivering food when I have to, running on trails, and meeting new people.

ABOUT ME

I'm a very different person than I was in my first run with this site. I'm older, probably a bit wiser, and definitely much healthier - drink way less, exercise way more, have recently gotten into transcendental meditation. I regret not using this site to its full potential in the past in terms of meeting new people and finding new friendships, and I'd like to change that.

PHILOSOPHY

Force myself to be uncomfortable. I'm an anxious person (especially socially) and the more I expose myself to new and different people the better off I'll be. At least that's the hope. -- That was what I wrote 13 years ago. It's still pretty much accurate, though I'm a bit less anxious than I was then.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Pretty much what I said in the mission part. I'm spending the summer in Zion, IL and the rest of the year in Southeastern Florida. I think I could talk my family into hosting here in Zion (we're near the Illinois Beach State Park and not much else), but would probably have a harder time convincing my partner in Florida to allow guests.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had nothing but good experiences in hosting and in surfing. They've definitely varied in nature, but they've mostly involved alcohol and fruitful conversation. And really, how much more do you need? -- This is what I wrote 8 or so years ago when I last used this site. Maybe I'll be able to update it soon :)

兴趣

My two things right now are running and music. Running because it's a thing that makes me feel good and strong and also allows me to get out and see things. Music because it's like this magic thing that helps you get in touch with your most basic human emotions.

音乐、电影和书籍

Bob Dylan has been in the spotlight a bit lately due to his 80th b-day. This led me to finding this podcast called Jokermen, which is about everything he's done AFTER his initial successes in the early to mid-60's. I'm sure there's a lifetime of material dissecting why his early stuff was great, but I think it's much more interesting to get into his more bizarre choices and speculate on intent and what not. So I've been listening to a lot of his lesser-heralded stuff lately and then listening to the corresponding episodes of Jokermen.

I like a lot of other singer-songwriter/folk-rock type stuff as well as some more punk-leaning stuff. I'd love to spend some late nights just spinning records and talking about what music is important to you and why.
