About Me
********UPDATES 2024 (6 years wiser) PROBABLY ALL YOU NEED TO READ********
Who has time to redo their couchsurfing profile every six years? Not me.
Although reading it now brings me to facepalm, you will find below my profile from another time, as I am sure I haven't radically changed in my essence.
Apparently this website really sold out and got all capitalist garbagey, and there is a fee now I will not be paying unless I am making travel plans :P so I signed up for BeWelcome, and this is what I put there for my wife and I:
Hi!
We are Jenny ( https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/jjbones ) and Graham (or "Granny" :P ), a kind, empathic, people-loving married couple of 6 years. We are both from Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, and have lived and travelled many places.
We are both teachers and coaches and love humans (and animals) of all ages! Graham teaches elementary school physical education, and Jenny teaches nursing and is also trained and working in a second career as an apprentice carpenter. Both of us are McGill university grads in our 30s.
We are quite family, pet, and friend oriented, and have become pretty domestic, settling in our home town with most of our family and friends around as the main reason to live in a place and build a family, which we inadvertently started out with by serendipitously rescuing three cats in the span of two years during the pandemic.
We are growth oriented people with open minds and love nature, diversity, new experiences, travel, sports, food, hobbies, games, socializing, arts and cinema, literature, etc. We are very easy-going, accepting, and inclusive and we like to think we are happy, helpful, courteous, respectful individuals who live with gratitude for our loved ones, our health, our education, and the many privileges that have come from growing up in Canada in modest relatively stable family households with siblings, pets, and bountiful opportunities to play outdoors and travel. We try to live modestly, ethically, and sustainably while supportive of and advocates for social justice. Jenny is quite vegetarian motivated, while Graham currently tends to aim for vegan options where practical, but we are far from ruthless about these choices and are somewhat flexible, so please don't perceive it as any kind of barrier without discussion around it. (Graham will really eat almost anything that would otherwise be wasted to most reduce his impact as a resource consuming hooman ;) )
We think travel is best done connecting with locals and appreciate learning about places and the people and cultures of the world, so probably no better way to do it than visiting folks at their homes and making friends, so if you have read this far, hopefully we are already on our way there!

CURRENT MISSION
Make every day the best day of my life, take it all in, and help others do it too!
Travelling right now and always looking for the DIY way, the authentic experiences and secret or special spots... sometimes its a lot of work to find these, but always happy to pass the info along to the likeminded folk interested in the same, or show others it can be that much better (I'm a teacher haha my job is to enlighten).
ABOUT ME
I'm a Physical Educator out of west Quebec. Kind, compassionate, friendly, supportive friend with flair for fun, humour, nature, spontaneity and adventure. Reliable responsible companion with adventurous spirit. Outgoing sociable open minded easy to get along with. Seize the day! Creative and always up for doing something different and unique ways to experience the thrill of life! Life moves pretty fast if you don't stop and look around once in a while you could miss it. Sport and game addict and film fanatic, although I'll put it all on the back burner for a day secluded in the wild.
PHILOSOPHY
Stay ever positive, create your own happiness out of anything and spread the love! Get out of the city! Or at least into different ones... Respect the environment, conserve. Care for the eco-system, and see it up close before it's all gone :( I also believe the best way to learn is hands on--do it like the locals, do it with the locals, do it AS a local!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
***Profile from 2018 left as it was***
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Bilingual! French and English! hope to learn Spanish. I often host all sorts of friends for long periods of time already, sadly no one on couch surfing yet! I believe travelling is made so much better by the people you meet :)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've had great experiences couchsurfing in France so far... Everyone was so generous and warm and welcoming, we were extremely lucky and extremely grateful. The perfect way to fly!

Music, Movies, and Books
***Profile from 2018 left as it was***
So many... Love fantasy, comedy, espionage, sci-fi, westerns, and themes like zombies and samurai
I have an ever developping appreciation for cinema, love genres. I would list the good ones... but there are too many... and yet nowadays too few
Fav bands are probably Pink Floyd and Tragically Hip, but I like a lot from most genres... singles too and so much from the 80s (but really any era I am very open minded).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
***Profile from 2018 left as it was***
I lived in a van in New Zealand and toured around for 10 months!
I love swimming holes, climbing mountains, diving and snorkelling, spending all my money on a whim to do a trip to France with my girlfriend or to Vancouver to see the Canucks in the Stanley cup final, bumped into high school friends randomly on a small Thai island beach (small world!), spontaneous road trips any time there is an excuse to go along! One of my favourite things ever was just kicking back on a beautiful day riding down the Rio Santa Maria on an inner tube in Santa Fe, Panama. Went diving with a whale shark!
Teach, Learn, Share
***Profile from 2018 left as it was***
I definitely love learning and sharing the tips of any trade.. Always open minded to hear another's perspective and probably give any advice a go, happy to share my own.
Couchsurfing is so important because it creates the opportunity for many to travel, but more importantly gain real context travelling by meeting people that live places and experience the cultures you are there to see.
What I Can Share with Hosts
