About Me

I am an author. My debut novel is coming out this summer. My husband is an architect. My three children are grown. I traveled far and wide before settling down 30 + years ago. I'm a good listener. I'm pretty agreeable and flexible as a traveler and guest.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have written a book ALMOST PARADISE which will be published by Farrar Straus & Giroux July 25, 2017. I plan to wander around the county going to bookstores, libraries, and schools. I very much want to meet other writers, middle school teachers and librarians. Aside from the expense, this is not the kind of thing you can do from a hotel room. I'd like to write about the people I meet along the way and whatever adventures we have. I call this kind of travel the Backroads Bookstores ramblings.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite is always hard for me. Changes with my mood. Today I like Ed Sherran's music. This year I enjoyed Hidden Figures at the movies. As to books, and I've read 100s recently. Peter Pan was a great surprise. The book is so different from the stage and movie versions. Profound and disturbing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had the good sense to marry Martin Shofner.
But wild kind of amazing? I traveled around the entire world on a ship. We crossed the international date line so we had two Thursday. It was a magical disappearing day, so the ship captain performed a big wedding ceremony for anyone who was game.
My book sold to a major publisher and I found I love the world of Children's literature.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am always teaching, learning and sharing. I will be going into classrooms more to talk about writing. I like yoga, meditation, walking, hiking, writing. I teach 9th grader Sunday school at my Episcopal Church.
