Overview
About Me
My name is Corey, I'm 33-year-old male of Native (Oglala Lakota Sioux) American and white descent. I grew up in a small town in South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. I spent most of my younger years in South Dakota and later moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, basically a 21-mile long peninsula that sticks out into the Atlantic ocean. I've been here since 2013 and usually spend my "off-season" in South Dakota. I work as a bartender on an ocean front tiki bar, pretty much the best office view you can get. My job is seasonal and I work from May to mid-November. I study at Oglala Lakota College, which is a community college on my reservation. I'm working towards my Bachelor's of Science in Lakota Studies with an emphasis in Indian Law.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I think the idea of being free to explore the world and travel new places is the main reason I've joined Couchsurfing. To me, the idea of seeing a new location from the perspective of someone presently established there is equally fascinating and exciting as well as providing the traveler with a more "authentic" experience over all.

Music, Movies, and Books
Favorite movies include - Home for the holidays, Practical Magic, The Help, Finding Dory, Titanic, Beautiful Creatures, Home Alone, The Adams Family, The Skeleton Key, Deja Vu, Interview with a Vampire.
As for music I truly enjoy it all, everything from Country Classics to Bassnectar, R&B to Frank Sinatra and everything in between.
I'm honestly the type of person who finds it difficult to stay focused when I read, I'm really just about obtaining the information I need for whatever it is I'm reading at the moment, so my favorite books are few and far but one worth mentioning is Medicine Women by Lynn V. Andrews. I found her experiences rather captivating as she reveals her mystical encounters on an Indigenous Reserve in Canada, where she has a truly life altering experience.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Gone four days with no food or water, as part of a very special ceremony that is practiced in my culture and is a rite of passage into manhood.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm a Native American Studies Major and I have my Associates of Arts in Lakota Studies from Oglala Lakota College. I'm always willing to share the knowledge I have with others, I feel that Native American/Indigenous People have a very rich history and culture, and I feel honored to be not only a descendant of such but also I can help to bridge the gap between Native American Society and Mainstream Society throughout my travels.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Whether it is cooking, cleaning, making cocktails, etc... I'm always willing to lend a helping hand.
