About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travelling Europe and making new friends

ABOUT ME

We have been dating for a little over 3 years and our goal is to travel to 100 countries together. We originally met while we were studying abroad in Brighton in the UK in the Fall semester of 2009. After finishing University in Spring 2011 we decided to save all our money and move to Prague together. We have been here since January 2012 teaching English to Czech people and exploring the rest of Europe. Then after our time in Europe we moved back to the US and are currently living in New York City where Thea is going to school to get her masters.

PHILOSOPHY

I know a lot of people have the tendency to think the grass is always greener, but I like to take every situation I am in and try and find the good in it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We like to host interesting people occasionally and we are looking to be hosted by people who are able to give us a unique experience that someone else would not be able to replicate. From being hosted I found that the people who make travelling the best are the ones that personally bring something to the table and give you a new perspective.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

CouchSurfing has been an amazing experience. We have gone to a couple Prague CS events such as weekly meetups, karaoke, etc. We have also met some awesome people from abroad and people who have stayed with us.

Interests

Sports (Football, Futbol, Basketball): My passion for sports is pretty ridiculous. I am trying my best to help Thea join me in the lunatic club, but I am not having much luck. She likes sports, but I think my irrational love of watching competition is something that makes me who I am. I am extremely competitive and I think that is one thing that holds Thea and I together because I don't think I have ever met anyone who can match me on my level of competitiveness

We like to watch laughably bad movies: Recently we have taken up the hobby of watching terrible movies. Namely Road House with Patrick Swayze, Hostel 1+2, and Eurotrip. Watching these movies makes us appreciate quality film so much more.

Catching up on old TV shows: As teachers in Prague the working hours are not very long and they are very spread out, so this leaves lots of time in between. Since being in Europe we have watched lots of amazing shows, and caught up on others. This is a fantastic way to enjoy them because you don't have to watch commercials and you don't have to wait for the next week to see the next episode (usually)

Playing FIFA (Corey): The amount of time I have played FIFA would make some people sick. (I swear between the TV shows and FIFA you might think I'm a fat nerd who lives in his mother basement drinking Mountain Dew, but it's not true. I do get out) This game just helps me deal with the fact that I was never able to accomplish my boyhood dream of becoming a professional athlete.

Parties: We like to get down and dance to Electronic music, and 80s music while consuming many liters of beer.

Exercise (Thea): Thea is pretty much an exercise freak who likes to stay fit. Me not so much.

House Music: We like going to clubs that play house music, and good bad ugly it doesn't matter. We also like going to parties to see DJs.

Hip Hop: This has been another pet project of mine, trying to get Thea into another one of my hobbies. I love hip hop music even though I'm white. I appreciate the intricacies of word play, beats, and rhymes. Some of my favorite rappers are Big L, Kanye, Kendrick Lamar, and Wu Tang.

Reading: Being a teacher in Prague calls for commuting all over the city, so these long commutes leave a lot of time for reading. We both have e-readers and spend most of our times on the commute reading as many books as we can.

Eating new strange foods: We are both pretty adventurous eaters and are willing to try any type of food. Some strange things we have eaten are Quail eggs, fresh clams, and blood sausage.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movie: The Departed, 500 Days of Summer, The Dark Knight
Music: Radiohead, Phoenix, Ellie Goulding
Books: Life of Pi, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Harry Potter

Then there are probably like 100 more of each, but we will not bore you with that.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There is a man named Vladamir Franz in the Czech Republic who is running for President. We saw him walking Prague a couple times. He has tattoos covering every inch of his body and also an accomplished composer and artist.

This might be somewhat generic (so screw you if you don't think this is bad ass), but when we were at the British Museum in London we saw the mummies in their tombs preserved. This kind of thing just blows us away because there are 3000+ year old bodies preserved until the modern day, and this is before any type of scientific advancement.

San Francisco on a foggy day is one of the most unique experiences I have ever had. The city is hidden beneath a low cloud layer and it is something that I think is completely unique to the microclimate the city has.

Cliff jumping off a 40 ft (12 m) cliff in the mouth of a cave in Belize

Slam Dunked a basketball.

We found a used pregnancy test that was positive on the street in Boston.

Found a $100 bill inside a Harry Potter book once

Teach, Learn, Share

Since we were both English teachers we come bearing the wonderful fruits of the English language, if you have any questions or would like any type of formal training we are the people to come to.

I also think I (Corey) have a pretty extensive knowledge of hip hop, so if you are trying to have a well educated discussion about the intricacies of the music I am your man.

Thea was a Biology major and she loves to talk and discuss everything related to biology and genetics. She totally geeks out at any mention of those things.

I (Corey) am also in the process of learning the Spanish language. I had a couple years of study in high school, and some more informal training with native speakers in my hometown of San Diego, but much of that has left my brain. I am currently doing some home study and trying to get my level up. If you could in anyway help me with that, that would be wonderful.

Both of us are addicted to food as well, so if you have any type of unique cultural food we want it. We want to integrate it into our diets and we would love to sit down and cook and have a meal with you. We would also be able to teach you some great things as well. I think I (Corey) have mastered the art of cooking amazing chicken, and burgers. Thea is amazing at cooking everything else. She spends her days browsing recipes and trying to find things to please our stomachs.
